plain robbery mate. its so one sided the world we live in. people who dont do well get punished, people who do something great are rarely recognised. Off topic but did you know that the government is helping fund more jobs for 16-18 year olds, but aiming most of it at people who failed their GCSE's. hmm...

and StaticDrops sounds great buddy!

your kiddding right?! (about the no GCSE teenagers) its a load of bullshit! tbh all you have to watch is geordie shore n TOWIE to realise you neeed no brains what so ever to get anywhere!

I honestly don't understand how people are getting these £2k quotes as their cheapest from. I'm only 20 when I passed my insurance was £900 on a 1.3 mk2 and the most I have paid is £1400 on a 1.4 16v 100hp 6n2.I have no one else on my policy and I live in an average area for crime. I think people need to move away from comparison site and give folk a ring.

I rung NFU Mutual as they have been rated the best insurer by which? magazine so I gave them a bell and they were fantastic right up until they said they don't deal with under 25's so I rung around a few more places and got onto Adrian Flux who insured me for just over a grand.

Like StaticDrops I had nearly a years no claims on provisional (costing me £850 + £50 when I passed to cover the rest of the time until renewal) then paid £900 for my first full year with 1 NCB and both those were with Quinn Direct. second year was £1400 with Chris Knott insurance brokers as found on here cheapest at the time for me but didn't recognise my provisional NCB. then went to Adrian Flux which with all the extras like breakdown and key replacement insurance came to just over £1000 and they recognised all three years NCB.

i think the reason why people go by the quotes on comparison sites just to get an idea on what the insurance may be once they have passed... i have tried phoning up companys to ask what it would be like but the times i have phoned they say we cant quote me... phoning up and shopping around is the only way new drivers will be able to find cheap enough quotes!but unfortunately untill you pass, i dont think they will give you a quote...

Call Sainsburys dude.

Adrian Flux cant quote anywhere near as cheap!

Quoted me at 20yrs, driving 2 months, with my first car (mk2 1.3) £1800 fully comp, key cover, breakdown. £150 excess :)

Was originally 2300 but got 500 knocked off for having a nectar card! :)

I think Adrian Flux quoted me £2970!

I second this. I'm 18 and have my own policy with admiral, 0 ncb, on a 6n2 gti (insurance group 12d!!) and It's 1350 for 10 months. Thats fully comp. excess 500, 6k miles per year, 3 old named drivers with clean driving records. Definitely worth calling round for quotes!

admiral keeep popping up when I'm talking about insurance, i think they are definately worth a try because that is dead cheap (for the current insurance prices on a young driver)

Because insurance has gone up absolute loads in the last couple of years.....

My insurance was £1350 when i was 17.... its £3000 for my brother for the same car lol.

I with Admiral at the moment, they were the cheapest but now i had someone crash into me not long ago and they haven't contacted me once since.....i seem to be doing all the chasing. 5 weeks and i've heard nothing and my car isn't fixed.

6k a year? that'll last me less than 3 months. i've found that the milage doesn't effect the price that much i normally go 25k+ or unlimited.

what the hell do you do for a living? :L

How are prices so high now.

When I was in my first year of driving I had a vtr which was 1700 a year for me to insure. Then i got my polo after getting 3 points and having a 50/50 accident and it was 1500 to insure.

Now I'm 20 with years no claims, 3 points and a 50/50 accident and its 825 quid a year for me with all modifications declared and they will give me 500 quid towards replacing the mods if any get damaged in a crash.

When we were insuring my sisters 1l mk2 polo, her on it was about £800 (main driver), adding my mum made it go to £750 (driving for many years), adding me dropped it to £500.

My 1.3 with everything declared comes in at £600 with HIC (4 years NCB on my own policy, 9 years as named driver) but to insure myself with a new policy on a 2.3T Saab 9000 was a £190 a year

for my dad to insure his 62 ford falcon, which is a 2.8 or something striaght 6 is £82 a year! they didnt even give him the option to pay monthly!

I pay 717 a year for my 1.6 Astra, I'm 20 have a years no claims been driving 2 years and have a fault accident costing £4015. Price is with coilovers declared....

I can insure my polo for an extra 50 quid with all mods declared too; 9n tdi mapped at 139bhp, coilovers, arbs, alloys, big brakes.

Don't see how people get such high quotes.... and pay so much!

I refuse to pay over 1k a year unless it's something special... Audi TT Quattro only wants 1200 a year.

who is that with man?

my mate was messing around getting quotes for his suburu turbo.

it was cheaper to insure it on the road with no alarm or immob than in his garage with a cat 1 immob/alarm.

insurance is just made up shit

Garaged cars are now (usually) more expensive to insure. I guess because being in a garage means that prospective theives could work on nicking it behind closed doors, and you or passers-by are less likely to notice anyone trying to pinch it.

I guess similar logic must apply to driveway vs parked on road too - I've been getting some quotes on fairly tasty motor I'm looking at, and it's about £800 parked on road; £830 on drive; and nearly a grand in a garage!!!

It's stupid. Insurance is such hassle too these days
