lola the loon

Featured Replies

Hello there polo fans,

Picked up an 84 polo classic last weak for the low low price of 500e

Brought it home and spun it over a couple of times and away she flew after ten years of lying up

Drained the tank of its ten year old (brown) petrol and ran it off a petrol tank and the bay!

Problems so far include:

Two rust spots, battery tray and rear passenger arch.

Not running right at the moment, bogs down under any load.

Brake fluid spray from underneath somewhere.

All to be fixed for dubshed on march 25th,

So far I got a set of star mags for it and a quad light grill as well as the red lip dash surround(GT I presume)

So far its cost me 25 quid in parts :0

Hope so if not I'll be going in my mk2 caddy pickup

looks tidy! :)

Please dont fit a quad round light grille. The grille and lights on it are alot rarer, and were only fitted to very early polo saloons like yours ;)

Or if you do fit the quad grille, sell me the square set up so I can return my early saloon to stock due to someone removing them before I got it.

Well I like quad lights, had a Jetta that I quad lighted too. There's just something about square cars and round lights that floats my boat. But you,LL be happy to know that I never do anything if I can't undo because I have a bad habit of changing mind too quickly :-\

Will be keeping an eye on this, see you at DubShed!

I'm with you on that. It's not like it takes an angle grinder to change them, it's only a screw on part to change them.

Just while were on the subject does the square light and sound lights have different slam panels like the golfs ? Also does anyone know the diameter of the larger headlight? According to the picture i won't be getting them. I'll find out sooner or later when it arrives its just a mind at ease post of thing here :)

Just realised you named your car Lola...

So is mine.

Weird one that!

Anyways, where abouts are you from? You say you bought it with euros but it has a northern reg. Hmmmmm

The car was bought in dundalk, I live in Dublin at the moment and the car lives in Kells now(my home home). Confusing but true :-) I'll only get a couple of days to get it ready for dubshed so it looks like I'll be filling the back of the pickup with hay and driving it instead

I'm only going to have 2 weeks or so to get mine ready, I know it might not get finished but i'm going to try anyway, look forward to seeing your caddy if this doesn't make it.

Yeah I've resigned to the fact that it won't be ready so I'm gonna clean up the truck tomorrow. Feel free to say hello, I'll be the frosty green one that people either love or hate :-)

Unfortunately the paint is completely dead, surface rust everywhere, not sure to spray it or keep the car looking rough. Might just sand the rust and prime it in spots, finally got my GT dash and quad lamp grille except I don't have the main beams, I can only presume that all polo round lamps are the same!?

Loon ftw :) .. Looks quite smart mate :) fancy selling you are suare light and grill :D

You guys are nuts for square lights for some reason  think I'll keep them as I'm never sold on these things until its finished

Wow...its been a while...so I got rid of the little one litre lump and stuck in a 1.3 8v from a mk2 golf, ain't got it running cause the starter is b*ll*xed on the new engine and I got a little dissuaded when I seen how tight of a spot the starter was in :L

Need a throttle cable and a different king lead from the dizzy then I should be fairly set

Found a bit of rot under the battery tray so I pi key welded a plate in so the progress didn't slow up
