GF 1300 8v Engine (Solid Lifters)

Featured Replies

For Sale is the engine setup I put together for my MK1 Jetta...I'm upgrading to a 16v so this lot is up for grabs...

Its a GF code 1300 8v, solid lifter/mechanical head type, with combustion chambers in the cylinder head and flat faced pistons.

The Bottom end was rebuilt with new bearings and rings approximatley 6k miles ago - its still in excellent condition.

The Cylinder Head was also refreshed, lapped the valves in nicely, new stem seals, and camshaft oil seals.

Have fitted a rare 300 degree duration Kent rally cam, this was a good find, and came brand new in the sealed 1980's box!

Vernier Pulley

Dbilas Dynamic inlet manifold

Matched pair of Weber 40 DCOE carburettors with 60mm full radius trumpets

Stainless Steel 4-2-1 exhaust manifold

Some pictures, the first of which are how it stands currently in the car - its still in and will remove for the buyer before collection. Sorry for the quality (phone!!!)

The general condition is fair, mechanically its 100% sound, however it would require a bit of TLC to be mint looking.

So you are buying the engine as a whole without the ancillaries:

Bottom End

Head

Inlet

Carbs

Exhaust Manifold

Alternator, starter, gearbox, flywheel and clutch are subject to negotiation, but will be very reasonabley priced. Please bear in mind as this was in a Jetta chassis so it has different engine mounts to polos so they are NOT included.

Its a lovely little engine, revvs for fun and made a stunning sound with a single muff diver silencer at the back.

Any questions welcome, please dont hesitate to PM me or text me on 07795516504.

Collection from Ringwood in Hampshire, or can deliver at buyers cost.

Price wise: £575 ovno - you wouldnt be able to build it for that!

Thanks

what sorta power is this putting out mate? looks wicked!

  • Author

cant be sure on the power never had it on a dyno, but I would estimate around the 100hp mark.

Should certainly be making 100bhp with that cam,

Would be a great little engine, especially with the non-heron design cylinder head!

indeed it'd be great fun in a polo.

I should add that the ignition parts will be included in the sale, so: dizzy, cap/arm, leads & coil if needed.

Heron design? Is that with combudtion chsmbers in the head? Why is that better?

Bump for noice engine!

quite easy to increase/decrease compression ratios as the pistons are flat and its all done with the combustion area within the cylinder head casting...

pleanty of interest but nobody coming up with the readies.

potentially going to split this if it doesnt sell in the next 10 days.

I expect the pulley will go with the engine unless its split further but I'd rather not.

I used it for work for a while and was probably getting 170ish miles to a tank...its not built for economy lol!

Right so I've had enough offers to consider breaking bits up...heres a run down of individual prices, delivery isnt included incase individual parties want multiple parts:

Carbs - £135

Inlet manifold - £100

Exhaust manifold - £75

Engine - £300

I'm not really that keen on splitting the engine further, its cheap at that price.

And please no comments about how it all adds up, the original price was assuming a buyer for the whole lot, not factoring in my time to split everything up and wrap/post it all seperatley. The engine will remain collection only from BH24.

cheers

would of loved to of had this if i still had my polo.. i had a hk engine in mine with a gk cam, gk inlet and weber dmtl and that was a lot quicker than a tuned gt engined mk1 golf, so i cam imagine this is so much more fun

500?

still interested in the pulley mate :-D

as it hasnt sold yet
