Mileage on insurance

Featured Replies

I asked some guy at a call centre when I was ringing around for insurance the other day as it will be my first year driving and I've said 5k miles, as to how much I can go over that before i need to ring them and he said as long as your not doing like 20k miles it'll be fine, as its your first year if you were to do 7k miles it wouldn't be a problem, not sure how much I trust this though as it wont be him declining a pay out if I have a crash, from 1k to 5k it actually came down £50 so I dunno.

Although I was also told I can get away with alloys on the car as long as they ain't HUGE and its got a vw badge on somewhere I can just claim that they were as standard, these people are as dodgy as you lot!

Don't take a single word they say as true, unless you have it in writing in front of you - & even still they'd still get out of it another way

Is it not "estimated" annual mileage with most companies?

Surely there's a percentage allowance?

Yea I believe its 20% but that would be a really big margin once you get into the 20k miles a year so I'm not sure, I'm buying my insurance on tuesday so I'll ask all this and chuck it up here.

There is definitely more room for error when its your first year driving as all the 6 companies I spoke to said that I've got some more wiggle room.

5k miles a year works out to be 100 ish miles a week, which I was told should be plenty but I'm making sure all my insurance is being done above board so if I find I'm doing loads of miles ill ring up and ask about raising my mileage long before it happens.

No point paying £2800 for insurance and skimping out on an extra hundred if its going to invalidate my insurance.

I'd trust an insurance company as far as I could throw them, & I'm small & weak haha

Haha, what the whole company? as in everyone who works there and the building and everything?

The only good thing with insurance companies (well admiral at least!) is that they aren't charging me extra for not having a dash or anything in my car, just carpeted over the bare metal, and my push button start doesn't put it up either :)

Everything mate, even the foundations

maybe we could torch a few of their cars see if they get a pay out ;)
