^ and redy for primer/paint

yeah so i did a vehicle and body course at college couple of years ago, unfortually couldnt find an apprentiship but luckilly for me my dad has a unit i can use (when theres space!!) so thought id just get stuck in and threw my self in at the deep end I've never done "smoothing" before so I'm learning as I'm going along... because of this and money and me having a full time job progress is a little slow at the minute but it should be worth it wen its all done and i can say I've dont it myself :)

Please tell me what yous think!!

thanks mate, well yeah I've had a 6n and the quiksilver and I've done VERY minimal mods to both cars and thought its about time i just got stuck in!! With me still having the quiksilver its ideal to keep the polo off the road for now so can do anything without having to worry bout time scales :)

That looks good mate will look sick when its finished! :)

ok cheers for that lads :)

So I've Got another little update

so the Side strips on a 6N u take them off with a heatgun bit of t-cut and bobs your uncle oh not with a 6N2 :|

when you take them off i think there is 9 holes either side, my dad is gonna weld these holes up for me (cheers dad) but obviously this means me stripping all the door cards out the inside (Right chew on!!) Anyway did that and popped the stripps off the sides using a trim tool when you do this your left with this

so i got the Drill and Caramel wheel out and attacked all the gluey resin stuff

img00307201203131724.jpg

And was left with this... (cant really see the holes here so you can get an idea off how it will look :)

Obviously the sides will have to be taken down to the metal around the holes prior to welding...

then while smoothing the bumper the little bit off damage i knew about turned out to be a bit more considerbale :(

it doesnt look that bad buy i had to take the bumper off the car as i needed to plastic weld it, didnt fancy just fibre glassing that hole! unfortually it has warped the corner off the bumper a little, anyway i wacked out the heat gun pushed it back to the orginal postision (as close as i could get it) and then plastic welded it using a soldering iron :)

Looking good so far, them quiksilvers are decent lil cars had one before my polo

Seeing you smooth your bumpers is making me think about smoothing my spare one

  • Author

Yeah the quiksilvers are very nice to drive lots of grip but I've had enough off the reliability seems like there's allways something that needs fixing on it lol, and yeah if you've got a spare why not what's the worst that can happen? :p

Haha 'snap off' because its french, mine weren't to bad but I only had it 6months

Yeah I suppose, worth a try

I appologize for the awful photo it off my shttty blackberry and I'm backed up right against the wall lol

but as you can see its in primer!!!! UNFORTUANLY this is where i can no longer take any credit :( I'm not doing the priming/painting... i was gonna give it ago but a freind off the family (proffesinal painter) said he`d do it at mates rates so might aswell get a professinal job after putting all this time and effort it :)

POLO HAS GONE TO THE PAINT SHOP TODAY!! XD

is the angle on the front bumper as sharp as it looks on the photo or does it blend in more

yeah lol would say this car is a mixture of blue and purple, BLURPLE :)

Keep up the good work mate, lol hope this doesnt take offence but the smoothing on the front bumper does look quite sharp, maybe thats the effect you were going for,

Its not as sharp as it looks in the pictures, i did keep the line purpersly though just to be a little diffrent :) the look has been lost slightly some what when the primer was flatted down mind

Looking good, want to see it sprayed up :)
