Golf's are hardly the only car to run twin cams. And its hardly a defining feature. I guess to the average pleb on the street its sounds Tech though

Yep, late '90s Fiesta.

And they use two different cars with the bloke racing the black car behind it too - Astra inside but a 1-series outside.

Not a great advert, if people really thought that about Golfs then they wouldn't have to advertise it. So it just makes those of us with Golfs look as though we think we're better than everyone else..

back when I had just started driving a mate was bought a brand new 5dr picanto, and for a laugh at a petrol station a few mates kept on slamming the doors as hard as they could shouting " SOUNDS JUST LIKE A GOLF". you had to have been there.

I've never heard anyone say "sound's like a golf" other than on that advert, and if any of my mates started slamming the door of my brand new car as hard as they could thinking they were funny they'd be met with a hay maker and a walk home

Are they actually twin ports? ie, an 8-into-1 or 8-into-2 manifold?

Does it not mean inlet and exhaust?

I'll bet it's just that the bridge between the inlet valves reaches the head face, instead of being further in an oval port (it's about an inch in, on the Polo 16v engines).

I'd like to think one inlet valve has a longer manifold port than the other for some proven extra torque curve or something, but i doubt it.

Presumably where the inlet manifold for each pair of cylinders is separate. That is how I understand it from my beetle. "twin port" Carb then the inlet runner branches into 4 to feed each cylinder rather than "single port" where it goes carb, splits into two with one runner feeding two cylinders.

Ironically my current beetle advertises itself as "fuel injection" which usually sparks some interest. Similar to having "catalyst" on the boot of the polo.

Just another way to differentiate

It bothers me more that the journalist is powersliding a 1 Series (rear wheel drive) and says it "handles like a Golf" (front wheel drive)

Don't know of many Golfs that smoke their rear wheels like a 1 Series.

And I don't know of many 1 Series BMWs with a Honda Civic interior either.

The Fiesta is a long-term project and was a regular sight on our show stands when we were at Max. 2.0-litre Zetec engine running throttle bodies, had everything done to it too. Paintwork by none other than Perkins Automotive, now Eastcote Customs, which is where mine was done.
