How old are you? The younger than 25 the worse it gets. Also decide who is the main user, your mum is commuting in it, you are only using it for Social Domestic and Pleasure. Who is going to do what mileage? When you have sorted out that split it may come down a little, but you have a big disadvantage - you are in Manchester, one of the higher risk areas in the country (I'm not much better off, I'm nearby) and I have found some insurers just don't cover the higher risk areas except at a price. Like £5k-£6k for a 1.4 6n. Try Liverpool Victoria directly as one option but do phone round places. Equally, don't be surprised some places will come out with stupid figures because of your Mxx postcode.
