might go for a bolt on slam panel. what you reckon? dont see a problem with it being unsafe if there only spot welded anyway?

also, having major problems with the engine, can anyone help?

when it eventually starts, it runs super lumpy, and if you put your foot down it just doesent rev! it bogs down!

I've tried 2 different carbs on it and it does the same, also I've tried adjusting the timing by twisting the dizzy and nothing.

bear in mind this is a car that has stood for nearly 2 years, and its a solid lifter engine. what could be happening?

If was sat 2 years....was it started at all? Could cambelt have gotten a set on it and jumped or something?

What the spark plugs saying?

  • Author

yeah dont think it was started at all loll

i dunno man surely id have heard it jump?

plugs were pretty sooty, cleaned them up a bit with some sandpaper

I'd defo stick a cambelt on, give it a service and give it fresh fuel mate

  • Author

its got fresh fuel, but would old fuel cause it to bog down rather than rev? may be a bit left in there.

sounds fucked tho man, something mechanicals up with it

if was me I'd do the above, do compression test etc.

Has it got a dizzy with points or hall effect?

  • Author

points dude.

just seems wierd that it was running mint when it was taken off the road, and ow it fucked just from sitting? it must be something silly surely?

2 years is long time lol

  • Author

yeah but what could have broke? doesent sound to pretty when you turn it over

Any oil in it? Lol

  • Author

yeah, but either way it should still rev up!

check cam timing. I would even have tried starting it being sat 2 years lol

Looks like an alright base (apart from the running problem). What are the plans for this one? Are you going to take the pin stripe off or try and recreate it down the new wing?

  • Author

how? timing light? i dont have one lol. just saw a random thread and it made me think, if the terminals on the coil have rusted, that could cause running issues no? may have to check out all connections tomorrowsss

No that's ignition timing mate.

Cam timing is the cams position relavent to crank. Hence cambelt jumping maybe.

Clean up everything electrical. Derust, WD40 etc

  • Author

o shit yeah. check the timing marks? just gotta find em, i dont no ot I'm looking at, your the engine guy not me lol.

yeah ill have a go. apparently a faulty coil can cause it not to rev up so ill see if i can get my later mk2 coil to work

I'm not an engine guy lmao.

There will be marks somewhere

Good luck xx

have you checked the flow rate of fuel, if the pump diaphgam has broken down when parked up it may not be pump enough

  • Author

hmm thats a good point, cheers for pointing that out. how would i go about checking it?

are you gonna rust it and weld shit to it? try be a bit different and that? looks just like all other mk2s

  • Author

I'm gonna do exactly what i want to it, because its my car and dont care what you fags think of it!
