take the fuel utlet pipe offthe carb, crank the engine and let the fuel pump into a bottle, see how much fuel comes out

or take the fuel pump off (and fuel lines) and pump the drive pin by hand, see if you can 'block the flow' with your finger.

ill give that a go nice one.

if i stick my facet on there to see if its a fuel problem, will it be alright pressure wise if i have it attached to the swirl pot? swirl pot has a return right?

Yeah the swirl pot does have a return , I'm having exactly the same probs with my 1.3 although it hasn't been stood at all it has just got progressively worse over time to the point its stuck at the front of the house , if I try to start it won't go at all , if I remove the return pipe of the swirl pot no fuel comes out until I remove the feed pipe (then it pisses fuel out of the pot) connect everything back up and turn the key and it will run for about 15secs (wont tick over or rev up) then it'll die and not go again unless I repeat the process . Really losing heart with it .

Nice one on saving the coupe mate , really like these earlier coupes and silvers a win for me . Will be watching this thread and look forward to seeing your progress ! 8-)

ahh sounds like mine! I'm gonna have a play today if the rain dies down a bit,

cheers, its an older one so worth saving. even though this one is rusty and my black one isnt! it just feels better built and a bit more special. and the interior is MINT

I agree , both mine are west German built but there's something about my earlier one . If you sus out what the fault is gimme a shout , gonna have a do with mine in a bit see if I can sort it (its in the back of my mind the pooburg carb could be at fault although like yourself I've tried a few on it , just don't trust them , they're shite compared to the weber on my 1.0) 8-)

Nice one, I like this :) Is the daily gonna get the Derby headlights?

The engine looks like it could use some love!

  • Author

it will indeed be running derby lights!

yeah man, gonna give it a coat of paint, aswell as cleaning up the bay. just ordered a new accuspark ignition points system aswell as new plugs ect. hopefully it will run properly!

IT LIVES!!!!

fitted an accuspark kit, got rid of the resistor wire so the coil is permanently running 12v, and advanced the timing. and it now revs up fine!

to anyone on here, i cant reccomend an accuspark kit enough! so simple!

its still hunting around a bit on idle, gonna try making a carb gasket tomorrow or something.

Whats accuspark?

  • Author

it replaces the ignition points with a magnetic system, makes it alot more reliable, never have to adjust it, and you get a better spark!

Its for the older points system though right?

  • Author

yes sirr, so for people with mechanical headed engines :)

Good to know. May need that for the 'other' engine :ninja:
