That rot looks quite rampant in the first picture, much worse than any mk1 i've tackled over the years.

Sure its fixable, but the inner arch tub looks like it'll need major surgery.

its pretty bad mate, i touched it with a screwdriver and poked straight through it!

I'm actually pretty impressed at how bad its got! thats what happens when polos sit for 2 years unattended i spose!

if you think you can fix it mate, crack on haha. thats not all of the rust either! i could get pics of more!

Think i will mate. If guy is able to do the repairs, then I'd much rather keep it. I'm going to take of my sills/trims and see how bad its gotten and go from there

Well I doubt it will be seeing the road again so you may as well do something wacky with it before it gets scraped (I would either cut the roof off or drill out all the spot welds and reduce the chassis right down to it's bare parts just for the hell of it).

I think you could technically drill out the spot welds for the roof of both cars, and swap the sunroof one into the black one (or any coupe) - You would need a spot welder which I don't think are too common (no idea) but I don't think it is impossible and structural integrity would be good if the same number of welds were used. There is a video of someone doing it on an old yank car on YouTube somewhere.

Pull one of the door seals out and look at the B pillar, you'll see little circles, those are spot welds and (I think) they are what hold the four sides of the chassis together.

Yeah thats well gone... and well past saving unless you are doing it yourself and you have quite a bit of emotional attachment to the car. mine had a bit of rust by the seatbelt mount point. But you only saw it after diigging so the scary stuff you will find after cleaning that up would be even more scary!

i knw what spot welds are, i did drill them out to take the slam panel off afterall

yeah exactly, i only recently got it as a project and i didnt pay much so not TOO fussed as it has the proper coupe s interior ect!
