I personally have not disconnected the battery. These faults were on the car when I bought it.

I was told by the previous owner that the abs light was intermittent. Been on constantly for me.

I have pulled the plug on the abs pump and put it back on. Faults remained.

Next thing is to check the ecu connections and the fuse connections.

If I disconnect the battery could that reset whatever is causing the fault codes.

Even just replace them all (theres only 3), and see if that does it. Still though, a pump for 25, I wouldn't be complaining man!

Even replace the whole fusebox incase it's the holders that are causing the high resistance and the voltage drop, new fusebox is listed @ 25€uros

I think what I'll do is take the whole fuse assembly off the top of the battery and clean it up completely then replace the 3 fuses.

The fuses did look a little dirty, not corroded though.

I'm going to book it in for the pump replacement tomorrow.

I did notice that the fuse holders in the top were a little dirty but not terrible. I'm gonna try and source one of those too but I need to clear it soon as the mot runs out end of April.

Did you take it for a test drive after cleaning up the fuses? as it need to go through a cycle of moving @ 15+ mph to reset the memory

Changed all the fuses.

I have just done my morning drive to work, so I'll try and clear the codes this lunch time and see what happens.

Got my new pump yesterday anyway.

When I bought the car, he showed me the receipt for the new battery that had been fitted about 6 months previously.

Still got some guarantee on it (from halfords).

Tried to clear codes again.

Still there.

Pulled all the plugs off the ABS pump, and the ECU. Went for a quick drive (well above 15 ooops) and codes still persist.

Gonna book in for the pump change then take it from there. At least I'll eliminate it as the cause of the problems if the codes don't clear.

Booked in for the ABS pump replacement on Monday.

The garage I take it too luckily has a guy next door to them who is a VW expert and will check and clear all the codes for me.

He's also going to diagnose my airbag fault.

And the ABS fault is fixed.

£25 pump from eBay. £100 fitting, plus a bit of code clearing, MOT as well with no advisories.

£220 all in.

The airbag light looks like it's something more serious. The guy who tested it reconed it's gone off at some point and the ECU is fried.

Anyway, passes the MOT at the moment with the light on so have a whole year to sort it.

As an extra note, have a read of the MOT changes on the net, there is a lot in there that will fail lots of cars, and maybe even write them off.

And if you've got any fault lights on your dash and you MOT is due in the next few months, get it done now or face a failure.
