Hi,

So I have a couple sets of wheels to get painted. They're shot blasted to bare metal and I plan to have them primed, 2k coated and lacquered. Will the tyres seat and seal ok on this paint or will it need to be roughed up at all. I know the tyre fitter will use a sealant but I just wanna be sure.

they should be fine. I personally make a point of painting the beads once all the crap has been removed. sealant shouldn't be required, just soap. Sealant is for shoddy tyre fitters who can't be arsed to clean the bead up first

so might be worth a sugar soap around bead after painting, as i'll most likely end up at ATS or equivalent.

I wish more people are aware of this. Tyre "sealant" is bollocks.

Clean the rim up and if its badly corroded respray them. Its not effing hard.

Dude he wasn't having a go at you. You have been told by g40jon that what you are doing is perfectly fine.

The guys were just saying that using tyre sealant is not nescessary if the wheel is preped correctly, which you are doing.

Sometimes peeps on here can come across a little arrogant. "it's not too effing hard" wasn't really needed was it.

Literally the last 10 threads I've read have been members taking the biscuit out of others cos they didn't know something or asked a question which to some might be obvious.

OMG! I think you'll find the comment by brighside was aimed at slack tyre fitters, not you!

and the soap I was referring to was tyre soap, not sugar soap. Tyre soap is applied to help slip the tyres over the rim when fitting, so you dont tear chunks out of the tyre.

You shouldn't need to be going anywhere near the stuff.

clean the bead, paint the bead, go see tyre fitter, get tyres fitted and balanced, drive away happy!

Ok cool. Kind of what I thought tyre sealant was then. Used to help slide the tyre on rather than seal it, i jus called it sealant cos that's all I've heard of.

sealant is a black rubbery type of gack, that is used if the rim is a bit grubby/corroded.

ok definitely not sealant that I'm thinking of. The white stuff they leave all over your tyres, must be the soap you were talking about.

my rim has been shotted clean and will be professionally painted.
