Does the water flow into the metal pipes then? Any idea how these compare to a traditional oil cooler?

yeah flows with the engine, will help warm engine up quicker, and keep oil at a more stable temperature, compared to no oil cooler, and helps where there is no airflow through the oil cooler (ie hooning it on the motorway and then getting stuck in stop start traffic)

i never ran them on my engines, as I have external oil coolers fitted on all my cars

Any chance you've got a gt airbox?

I was looking to buy a mocal heat exchanger (or have one made by a mate) and they work on the same principle. I spoke to a motorsport fella who builds engines and he said the exchangers work better for the reasons you mention there, as well as keeping water and oil temps more inline. I just wonder about the effect on the cooling system, and whether the heat exchange surface is large enough

How do they fit onto the block btw?

Only got a spare g40 air box mate sorry.

My water heats up quickly but stays quite stable. Oil temps stay relatively stable, hasn't cooked the oil or toasted the water yet and that's with turbo water cooling.

Either or really, might make a tidier bay with one fitted rather than beefy lines going all the way to the front panel or wings for your oil cooler.

It mounts where the oil filter does, there is a larger threaded stud for the oil filter, this sandwiches in between and locks in place with a nut. Lines normally run to the pipe at back of engine and in the thermostat housing ( one port is blocked off on mk4s and the mk5 gtis have the oil cooler return fitted as well as the multifunction temp plug )

I figured they attached there. The tidy bay is attractive. May look into a larger rad too as it will need to cool a turbo, as well as oil sprayed onto the pistons (1W what?). Bring one with you if you want, and I'll have it from you if thats cool. Cash on collection ok?

neither, clues in the name, ARB bushes...

they are purple powerflex bushes, I'm sure they are in the link to pictures on the first page...

as new, bit grubby, unpackaged, were fitted but never used
