Olympic Breadvan

Featured Replies

Alright guys, I am new to the forum so figured I would put up a build thread for my Mk2f/3 Breadvan 1.3 CL Olympic Edition.

I picked it up in August last year for £550 with 64000 on the clock and it looked like this.

Since then its been a slow process due to moving house.

I took the hub caps off almost immediately and gave it a polish.

This is how it stood for a fair while.

Then I decided I should at least do something to get the project rolling.

She gained some yellow tint for the lights and then the other day I sprayed my badges and this is how she now sits with an extra 11000 miles on the clock too.

Plans for the car include...

- Some Polo GT steels / Renault 5 Turbo alloys / Some 3 spoke alloys

- 60/80 lowering kit

- New fuel tank because as with all of them this one likes to leak.

- New exhaust after this one fell off due to a rusted fitting on the bottom of the car and is now held on with a coat hanger and cable ties...

- Some new comfier seats

Nothing too exciting but this is my first car and I can't really be too bothered with anything major as I lack almost any mechanical experience so until I manage to get a new daily this will just have to be as it is.

looks good fella

Neat model, looked better with the wheel trims on though.

Hell yes, the lights are sweet, I've been tempted by laminX for a while

I've never heard of an Olympic edition before. Looks nice :-)

Cheers guys, I do love my little runabout.

The main reason the trims came off is because they were brand new and I didn't fancy curbing them. I figured if I come to sell it then some nice new wheel trims will definitely help a sale over some battered ones.

Mikethebike, you may as well buy some, it cost me £3.14 including shipping for 1.5 metres by 30 cm off ebay and it so easy to put on/take off.

There is nothing special about the Olymipc edition other than the stickers on the side and back. It just happened to be registered on the first day of the 1992 Barcelona Olymipcs.

Hmmm Olympic edition. Pretty cool, would be a shame to ditch the sticker though

Stickers will stay unless I decide to respray it but I doubt that I will because the paint is perfect condition

Good, the olympic stickers are pretty cool!

When are we going to see this project take off?

When I finally get some money, I don't really get paid enough to do anything to it. 100 a month on insurance, 300 on rent at home and the rest goes on petrol for my daily 70 mile drive to work and back. However as and when I have some spare cash it will go into this! I guess this is a little bit of progress if you can call it that? Stole my friends mk1 golf splitter and cable tied it on to see how it looked. Opinions? I've back to blacked it now so its the same colour as the rest of the bumper.

Cars looking good man! Hope your doing good up north!! You still working at the WS up there?

The splitter gets my vote

Love the Olympic logo! Nice and clean. 5.5j GT steels are good on a breadvan especially with stock 165/65/13's and GT wheel trims.

Also, heavy duty long jubilee clips will sort you out with your backbox ;) £7 delivered for 2 on eBay.

Would love to update this with something exciting, however, only 2 new front tyres have been fitted.

To put the power down?

Anything lined up for us in the near future?

Well I got the weekend off work and when you go see old friends who get bored easily things happen it seems.

So yeah, I got hold of some old polo springs and an angle grinder and after cutting a couple of coils out this is how she is sitting. (This is only temporary until I get a lowering kit sorted)

Then my friend went money crazy and bought some 13x6 alleycats in the heat of the moment so i very kindly bought them off him to get him out of financial difficulties)

The fronts fit perfectly and the backs need some arch work so that they can fit right so currently they are just sat looking pretty in my house until I have some time to pull my arches a little at the back. Does anyone have any suggestions on the easiest way to do this with a breadvan?

Saw this on facebook, looks rad :)

Dunno about breadvans but heat gun and a mallet always works, depends how clean you want your arches though...

Yeah I had a go with a mallet earlier but I think its just going to take some patience and time to get it right, there is some spots of rust around the arches so they need touching up with some fresh paint so I may as well just get it done properly.
