Hi I have a 1.4 16v the 60bhp one I was wondering if there was any major differences to the 100bhp afh lump if not then what is the difference and why is there a 40bhp difference

If your on about a mk4 polo (6n) you have a 1.4 8v engine code AEX iirc.

I have the 6n2 its the se 1.4 mpi 16v 60 bhp one defo 16v tho

well you have 75bhp than, not 60

Oh right when I phone up the insurance and on the log book it says 60 bhp but will double check

the 1.4 8v had 60hp the 1.4 16v SE had 75hp and then the rarer 1.4 16v (literally just labelled 16v) had 100hp.

100hp 6n2's are a bit more rare!

This is the spec on my car

It says 1.4 59bhp

And it's 16v so am I missing something or did they do a 60bhp 16v 1.4

Is there any way I can't make it quicker without spending loads of ££££

yeah, change the engine with a cheap gti donor :)

There's more to life than apps - you should have got a logbook with your car. It's made of paper, old tech but still worth having, have a read and it should show a 9-digit number for the engine number.

What are the first three digits, which will be letters? And is it the same number stamped into the flat end of your engine block (directly underneath the black plastic thermostat housing with pipes coming out of it) ??

It's an 8v mate. They don't have the same cam cover as the 6n's, they have some ugly thing held on with lots of bolts (hidden under a plastic cover). The ignition leads plug into the front of the block too, instead of the rear.

I know what a logbook is mate I ant stupid as I've just brought the car I haven't recieved it yet

nope only 75hp and 100hp 1000000000% certain.

I should know as I spent ages looking for a 100hp one. however the 6n2 1.4 16v's are alloy blocks whereas the AFH isn't and the 8v are iron too.

Copey, the above info is for the reg you supplied. Its a 8v, so unless its had a 16v conversion then you've been fleeced.

8v 6n2 1.4 isn't iron, it's ally, identical to the 16v one.

Well it's the one with the massive black engine cover but I haven't had a chance to have a proper look yet and still haven't recieved log book yet

So what is the difference between the 75 and 100bhp engines

Are they both different lumps

Is it just a manifold restriction ect

Copey's is an 8v with 60bhp, big black engine cover says '1.4 mpi' and the ignition leads go in the front side of the head. He never answered when reality finally hit him..

Difference between 75 & 100 i'm no expert but to start.. despite looking identical, i know it isn't quite that simple to alter - cams (well, inlet) and fuel system/induction/ecu changes. I don't know the full shopping list though.

I'm not certain of the whole thing but the inlet manifolds are different the 100hp is a ally manifold and the 75hp a plastic one.
