its a '77 manila green, one of my favorite old vw colours

1093cc engine, its very tired but i have a spare from my red polo

Shell has around 55 thousand miles

I'm the 4th owner, last owner had it for around 4 years

Its generally a very solid little car :D .. tatty around the edges but nothing unexpected

Plans are to restore it to original condition, i dont want to modify this one in any way at all as i'll leave any mods for the white one instead ^_^ Until i begin the restoration, it will be hibernating in a garage somewhere, probably for another year or so.. i'm just too inpatient when it comes to cars so had to buy it as it was close by and the perfect base (colour/year/model/condition) i want for a resto.

:D

:)

I'm loving the 110mph speedo  The interior is really mint, the front seat cloths could do with being pinned down at the back but other than that it's lovely. Might also you could probably get that dealer sticker reproduced.

Cheers matt :)

will get the interior straightened during the resto, may even have it reupholstered as i found someone on german ebay who supplies identical repro material, and i will be getting all the stickers reproduced :)

Its now ready to go into a garage for a deep hibernation, basically no more updates for a year or 2 until i begin restoring her  it won't be a minor restoration though ;)

:D

Sounds like an amazing plan, my gold GLS has gone into long term hibernation, just having fun with the mk1AFH at the moment.... even tho I'm now pulling it apart.

Love it... so good polishing up.something like that and bringing it back to its former glory!!

:) your gls, along with andys 77 is a slight inspiration for me ;) I'm trying to enjoy my white mk1 (895 beast!!!) but constantly finding more and more little niggles to sort out

thanks luke, to be honest its not ideal for a first car, it needs quite a bit of work, nothing structural but if i used this as a daily it would be rotten within a couple years so its more of a restoration project :)

Hi, been a few months since the last post on your thread. Do you still have the green polo? I've been looking for a 1977 manila green mk1 for a long while now... If you ever think about selling on, please let me know and I will make sure it goes to a good home.

No intention to change it, just want an mk1 daily for the 12 mile drive to work.

  • Author

Yeh i still have it mate, I've stored it in a garage at the moment so no updates. Its not really ideal for a daily, it needs work, its solid but a couple years of being a daily and it wouldnt look too pretty... which is why i'll be restoring it come october hopefully to get it ready for some 2013 shows... This one really is a keeper for me :) too 'rare' to let go, i know i'd regret it straight away, another manila should pop up sooner or later though ;)

Nice - i hope the "PIMP" suggestive number plate is not indicative of the plans for the car. ;)

Good luck with it.
