Mk3 G40 Turbo.

Featured Replies

Quite afew of you know of my car but for the less well informed, here we go.......

Brought the car 3/4 years ago. looked something like this.....

2010-gti-international-4383.jpg

engine back then still had the g-lader (full blend) and afew other little choice mods done by the previous owner. was RR @ 137bhp which was nippy enough to begin with. interior was stock apart from a momo steering wheel, suspension and brakes were standard and wheels were 15" G60 steelies with yoko A539 rubber. It stayed like this for quite a while as it looked quite good.

once i got bored of the power a year or so later, the g-lader was replaced with a PSD eaton m45 kit and abit of engine work was done to turn it into 1341cc

The seats were ripped out at the same time as the eaton build and the fronts replaced with magnum motorsport fibreglass bucket seats i got as a birthday/xmas present, along with 3 point harnesses to hold you nice and tightly in place.

Shortly after the wheels got changed as i was fed up with scrubbing issues and as i live on a particulary bumpy road, i didnt really see any other option. £30 later, a set of VW hockenheim rims sprayed black graced the car.....

now dont ask me what was going through my head at the time as i cant tell you but the wheels went from black to........

IMG_1143.jpg

not everyones taste i know but i couldnt care less.

Quite abit later on, i got severly cheesed off with the constant niggles of fooked belts etc so when a K03 setup came up for sale, i had to have it. conversion to turbo took a month as i wasnt very well so did abit wherever possible and with huge help from my dad, Yeti and oldeboi, the T40 was alive :) The engine spec is as follows:

1341cc bottom end (accralite pistons)

Standard head

shrink 268/268 camshaft

300cc red injectors

K03 turbo

rothe manifold

PSD downpipe

forge intercooler, actuator & dumpvalve

vernier pulley

Big air filter

modified throttlebody

solid engine mount

aquamist water injection system

at the same time of the turbo fitment, the standard suspension was swapped for apex shocks and springs, bringing the car 70mm closer to the ground.......

 after all them painful nights and long threads how does it feel to see all that work compressed into 2 small posts

I'm not a fan of the wheels, it looked awesome on g60's mind ;)

Theres probably lots of stuff I've forgotten to mention (like the huge dent on passenger side 1/4 panel :( ) but i either cant remember or it aint worth mentioning! Did look ace on the G60's but i doubt they'd fit under the arches now with the suspension set-up?! The current wheels were done as an experiment and will shortly be going back to black but was like being 5 again doing it plus getting trippy on the lacquer fumes

Well my PPP chip and some aquamist bits turned up today :) unfortunately i ordered the wrong pump connections but found i already had some suitable parts so no major loss. chips installed and 99% of the aquamist wired up. just need to connect it upto a switched live and its good to test. will need to tidy the wiring up but so far so good :)

Engine in its eaton era

Wow, love this! How much power are you aiming for with the turbo? I've been tempted to do mine, but insurance issues mean it's not gonna happen for a couple of years yet :p

PS. Sell me that subframe ;)

Cheers mate ;) Tbh, the pics make it look abit better than it is! still need to buy afew bits to tidy it up more. As for power, Anything over 180bhp and ill be a happy chappy as its rapid enough at the min! Youre never about when I'm over to show you some turbo smiles. Ask Saf about it torque steering on the motorway

As for the subframe.......... no ;)

Saf still hasn't taken me out in the Golf either! Let me know next time you're up and I'll make sure I'm there :p I play football Saturday afternoons so I usually miss everyone haha.

I was up from sat morn to sunday noon so ill get slackamon to give you a shout next time ;)

Maybe up at end of month.......depending on cash etc

basically teggy your a golf, and the olop does torque steer like a motherbitch! need to change lanes? just stick yer boot down haha. too funny

Opposite lock at 85 ftl

Finished wiring the aquapiss in today. trust it to start to get cold :( wired the switched live to a switch on the blank next to the ignition for ease of use and added a LED to come on when the pump fires......

2012-03-15172445.jpg

will test run tomorrow or later if i pop out.

  • Author

Trust me to put the LED where i cant see it

Gotta check the tank to see if the levels dropped but I've got a feeling ill be checking my wiring.

  • Author

I am gonna change the location of the pump when i get a chance so it sits directly below the tank for optimum performance. thought id hear the pump fire up but not with the turbo spooling and the exhaust! Gonna read up on the installation again to see how to check the system.

Not had a chance to get much done as works been eating into all my time but managed to get a couple of bits sorted.......

2012-03-23132212.jpg

need to do the rest of the pieces over the weekend and get it all fitted.

  • Author

managed to get the rest of the interior cleaned this weekend finally (been desperately needing doing for ages!) and gave the boot floor area a quick going over with a coat of spraypaint to make it look more presentable than what it was.

Drivers seat is back in place and clean after alot of jiggling around to get it back in the runners

Once mr autoglass has been tomorrow, i can finish polishing the car and then i'll post a photo or two up ;)

Looking good! I don't know if you've had the same thought and checked already, but torque steer can also be the suspension bushes being fecked (normally outer TCA where the arb/subframe arms go into). I had this on a standard 1.3, new bushes and she was all good. I know you're running more cc's and probably more boost, but even without the subframe mine didn't really torque steer badly enough to change lanes. Worth a look?

  • Author

Maybe to do with 1 front tyre being alot crapper than the other too

Ill certainly take a looksie as they're probably kaput cheers mate. will obviously change them over when the frame goes on for piece of mind.

Well the car looks alot cleaner than it did on friday. just got to run round and redo afew lil bits and then clean the windows and voila :) anyhoo.....

2012-03-26112714.jpg

insides cleaner.....

2012-03-26112742.jpg

backs smartened up too.....

  • Author

Yeah..... bit of a long story i cant be arsed to go into but I've been on here longer than the details to the left make out :-o

I remember you :-)

Good to see you are back. Did the eaton ever end up running properly?

Interior suits the car. I like 8-)

  • Author

The eaton was just a pain in the arse fullstop :( mustve been the way it was installed?!

Now its turbo'd its a million times better.

Interiors nearly how i want it. just a rollcage and flocked dash to go.

just need an oil pressure gauge

  • Author

 i knew there was something i was forgetting...... i hate my fooked memory. PM coming your way....
