I've got a mk2 tank, brand new in a box I've got for sale. not really sure what the differences are in the tanks. i could have a look if youd like? justet me know what I've got to look for.

its brand new in the box unused.

I'm located in coventry

The early ones are shorter than later ones. They have a cut-off corner too to allow the handbrake cable to pass

il measure it and take a photo. cheers dood. very helpful

Yes please do, its a pain that they're different sizes as theres a few on ebay etc but not sure which is which! ideally it would be good to know when the design changed i.e what reg?

They changed in 85.

Early ones are 36 litres and later ones 42.

You can fit late tanks to early cars if you are prepared to swap the rear beam to do away with the handbrake mech and cut out and weld in a later handbrake mech. didnt see the point in cutting up a perfectly good car when you can get a new tank for £100 from Imperial that fits like a glove.

Thanks for the heads up!!!

Its the route i have had to take so i could fit a rear GT axle.

Keerly, why have you done that? My handbrake seems to have fitted ok so far without swapping handbrake mechs. How are the rear beams different?

You only need change the hand brake if your changing the tank. I'm not, so I'm keeping the old set up. My GT beam sits fine with the old set up

Ah. Well I'm changing the tank as i want a proper injection 16v setup.
