Hey there. I tried doing a search, but couldn't find what i was look for.

I'll start of by saying i have a 2001 Polo Gti 6n2

Recently one of my front headlights (Xenon D2S) seemed to have gone out, so i purchased a new pair of them.

I installed them, turned them on and they initially didn't come on. I turned the headlight switch again and one of them came on, and kept switching it a few times until they both eventually came on.

So i know the bulbs are fine (in a sense) so I'm wondering if its the ballasts that are on the way out? These are them http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190384099664? ... 694wt_1163

It just seems weird that they have gone faulty at the same time and that the issue is temperamental.

Would you recommend:

+ Different set of bulbs?

+ New ballasts?

+ Dodgy connectors/wiring (still original in there)

Vag-Com has options for Xenon Lights so there might be something that needs resetting in the system.

I know on a Megane you (according to Renault) have to replace both bulbs, ballasts and the Xenon ECU when the bulbs go pop.

Iv been looking at the VAG-COM cables and readers on eBay for awhile, i think I'm best getting 1.

Ouch, i hope i don't have to replace all of the above.

Hoping someone has had a similar experience.

Would these fit my Polo Gti 6N2 2001 with them been D2S which is the same as whats already there?

Have you tried swapping the bulbs around?

It is very likely that one of your ballasts are on there way out, but could very well be a bulb issue ECM though they are new.

Renaults are a different animal and they over complicate every thing. On a polo you could get away with replacing just one ballast.

If you do end up needing a new ballst I would suggest getting a slim ballst, but it may be better to change both as the act differently. Although you could find a cheap replacement hella one.Like this They are the same as things like older BMW's and the vauxhall omega to name a few. Also the D2R ones are the same.

As said above plus check your wiring for bad connections and corrosion. Ballast have a high inrush current when they start the lamp. If there's any high resistance in the circuit like a bad connection, they won't fire up. Also check the battery/alternator voltage, low voltage does the same thing.

Iv just hooked up VAG COM and there were no errors relating to lights (in the xenon section or any others others)

The left light comes on all the time now from start (near side) but if i leave it the right (off side) one came on on its own after about 20-30 seconds.

At weekend I'm going to check cabling and condition of the ballasts, just a ball ache to keep taking bumper off all time. But i think ill end up buying new ballasts to be honest.

As mentioned, swap your bulbs over and see what happens. If the problem jumps sides, you'll know you have a bulb issue. If the problem stays as it is, you'll know you have a ballast/wiring problem.

Sorry to but in on this thread but I have an issue which is xenon related

I have a 6n2 gti which went in for its yearly health check today and failed on the following - front headlamp cleaning device inoperative

And - front headlamp levelling device inoperative

The bloke said the car doesn't come with xenons as standard, I thought they were standard ???

Also the washers are working on the headlights so I don't know what's going on, he said I need to take the xenons out and put standard bulbs in

Anyone got any knowledge around this, any info would be a big help before I rip the bumbler off to change the lights
