Ermmmm information you wanted to try to use to get around no insurance, and I wasn't the only one who had an issue aha.

If its gonna be done properly, why not pick up the phone and speak to the DVLA or whatever and see.

If you don't have the common sense to get insurance, or pick up the phone to ask the question, I don't think you should be attempting to remove a massive strucural part of a car and weld it back on.

You totally missed the point in that post. If you declare wheels, suspension or engine swap your insurance don't tend to refuse to cover you unless you show them proof that the car has been through an iva test. So the only way to insure it would be to not tell them which would void your insurance anyway

harris you have posted on this thread 6 times and telling me to phone the DVLA or "google it" has been the only two things that are anywhere near usefull.

ok maybe coilovers and wheels are a bad example but if you notch your chassis technically you need an IVA test or if you smooth your bay and weld your legs and IVA test would be needed too. i'm not here to argue about getting away without a test lol.

yeah I'm just under 6ft and have a decent amount of headroom, what i was worried about more was potholes and dips in the road. could end up having to put low seats in or padding on the roof lol

I'm only just 6ft and my head nearly touches a mk3 roof

With stock CL seats and drivers seat all the way back my mate (6ft6") has about 3" headroom with headlining in on a non sunroof model. WHY YOU NO FIT!

Maybe I was exaggerating a little, but even raddo seats and 45 degree gangster lean are not going to solve the matter of the roof being 2 foot lower

If I recall you pussied out and had the thread deleted, but you surely can't deny that you were asking advice about how to defraud the police insurance validation system in that other thread... we're not fools.

The only way that I want to see your car on the road if you do this is with it being legit (i.e with an IVA). If you aren't prepared to get an IVA then please for everyone's safety don't even consider it.

I mean how many people have done a conversion on here, say from a 1l to a 1.4l, and have had to have their cars inspected after declaring the modification with dvla and insurance

I'd have thought like a 20vt or something, with mount changes etc would need to be, not things that bolt in with OEM mounts

It works on a points system and you loose points for every non standard part. Some thing like coilovers you would loose so many points for modified suspension, non standard engine and you loose more points, son on and so forth. Once you get below a set amount of points your car legally require's an iva, I think that the body on a monoque (sp) shell loses a shit load of points.

No doubt some one that knows more about it will explain a lot better than I have

just going to ignore the comments about the last thread as i asked the question on here for impartial advice on the police system and the law, i did not ask for opinions.

as far as i know you need over a certain amount of points to pass the IVA but a monoque shell has to be left intact. their is currently no class for modified production cars so there is no way of actually passing this sort of car in the IVA test. so basically all them pick-up polos are illegal too.

Your getting confused. The pickups had no test because there was no test for a modified commercial monoque which is obviously what it became once you turned it into a pickup. You could get it tested through another test (forget the name now) but it was very expensive and very strict, the car would also be given a Q plate. So yes most of the pickups will be illegal if made in the last 15 or so years and not wearing a Q plate. Although I believe they can now be tested under the iva so there really isn't any excuse

roof chops never had an issue like this they were just be classed as a radically altered monocoque and sent for an sva/iva test and if it was deemed safe you were off on your way in you newly chopped motor, if not they would take away your log book and not return it until your car was deemed safe for the roads
