Have been considering buying another car to use for work, but after insurance it wouldn't even be worth while.

So I want to get a 125cc bike I can ride on L plates,

Tbh I need a 4 stroke as would be 50 miles a day.

Want a sporty type one but don't really wanna spend over £1000.

I did my CBT but it ran out but after reading up having a full car license I can ride up to 11kw with L plates.

Anyone recommend something good?

Thinking something like CBR 125, Yamaha R125 (but these are still expensive) that type of thing.

I'm quite light (60kg) so I could probably afford to drop the rear sprocket size for a bit more speed.

Want something that's happy to sit at 60-70 and good on fuel.

Anyone share any experience?

If I drive my car to work it would add 12k a year just to work and back & cost about £60-£70 a week in fuel, plus I had a scooter and miss that!

Cbr and r125 are exspensive mate and not really that good for the price stay clear of aprillia rs125 and anything like that I currently have a Honda sh125 picked up for £300 with a brand new engine perfect I worked out it does roughly 125 mpg and and I can hit 70 which is impressive considering when I had a Yamaha r125 that only got 75 but I would highly recommend the sh125 so good never had a problem great on fuel and beats all my mates 125 and it's standard

o yeah the rs is a 2 stroke

i have a friend who owns a r125 and loves it.

also, after owning a 50cc 2 stroke, i would never own another 2 stroke. your piston practically turns itself inside out on a weekly basis.

Really? My scooter had a lot of stuff done and never missed a beat!

Like 70 kit, flowed cases, upgraded crank, bigger carb, custom inlet manifold, different reeds, variator, clutch, gear up etc, never had any issues haha.

i owned a speedfight three, french shite.

didnt go for the 70's kit but had loads done to it, most of what you said except the gear up and crank. oh and i never had a custom manifold haha. but it was set up properly and everything. then one day, oil pump packed in, bear in mind it was a 60 plate, and seized the engine. replaced the barrel piston and pump, seized again. conrod bent compression lost and sold on for just under a grand.

Thats the difference good 2stroke oil makes. Are you sure you're allowed a 125 on your car test? I thought it was a 50 on l's without a cbt?

and I'm not too sure. I thought I could, obviously I'll check first, doing a CBT wouldn't be an issue though

No when you have a full driving lisence you can ride a 50cc any bigger you need a cbt which last 2 years. I had a mental speedfight 2 spent well over £1500 and it was 02 hahahahaha was a bitch broke down every week, got a derbi senda 50cc was so much better but oil pump decided to die so it nearly seized ha engine out did it all then it runs sweet! Actually on that note it's for sale! Honda sh best ped I've ever owned. Cousin had a speedfight 3 fuse went which means the oil pump went hahaha Peugeot didn't want to know anything about it even though it was brand new apparently his fault the fuse blew and that it isn't part of warranty he had a full bottom rebuild haha

As soon as i read the title i just thought of a cg125, not really sporty and it aint going to set the world alight but there a bullet proof commuting bike, iv not really kept track of new bikes since i got a car after an accident on a bike, but i never liked the cbr 125`s, it just felt wrong.

Yeah everyone raves about cg125's

In my eyes Cbr are a bit over rated mate has one nothing special to be honest

KTM duke 125s are good if you can get one in budget. Nippy, have to remap rthem to get any major oomph though. If its just for fucking about on though id say get a CG125 or a cbr. bulletproof.

I ran premix on every 2 stroke i owned, bit of a ball ache at times but helped put the mind at rest :-D

And you cant go wrong with a cg, this is what i learned to ride a proper geared bike on so always have had a soft spot for them.

Stay away from ktm unless you enjoy replacing parts every ride out lol

MAny 172/180 kits avail for 4 strokes?

Yeah quite a few but I don't think it's worth it personally considering most 125s reach national speed limit

I once jumped over five lads on a CG125

if you just want a cheap commuter that you can just ride and not give a shit about or spend much on then there really isn't much better

I used to run two stroke on my vespa four gears and 1.5 hp to push a 77kg scooter and a 65 kg bloke (I'm a bit fatter now) was the most fun I've ever had on the road.

I have a RV125 4stroke fun on and off road crusies about 55 tops with me on at 100kg :)
