The idea is OK but the lowlifes will still find a way around it, and if you have made a typo error on your online insurance it won't let you have any fuel

Yeah but if you made a typo on your online insurance then your not insured ad ideally would help you get that sorted quicker

Wont stop them, Someone got there plates nicked from there camper a few weeks back and they were found on a lorry at dover.

Its still a common problem in some parts of the country

the article echoed my thoughts, of scumbags turning on the petty attendants.

if its hooked up to the ANPR, take a photo and automatically send the registered keeper a letter/fine etc thru the post, or should flag up the po. not really the petrol stations duty to due the police/dvla's work.

Totally agree about them turning on the attendants. Its a sad state of affairs really.

Another negative would be the fact if you have temp cover, or new policy it takes a few days to be updated on the system. So you'd be screwed then..

On the polo's first outing, went down to ed38, came back not stopped or anything in the whole 300mile round trip. I'm literally half a mile down the road dropping my gf off, and get pulled by the fuzz for no insurance, because it was only on temporary cover. (luckily had cover note etc. with me)

The thing is half the time all they do is penalize the people who play by the book.

IMO uninsured drivers should get ONE chance. You get the points or whatever it is first time.

If you get caught again with no insurance banned for life, but then again, will they have a license anyway?

if you ban for life they will still drive, as if you were breaking the law for no license, no insurance, no tax etc a ban is hardly going to stop you. larger fines or jail terms for persistant offenders.

I think jail. They wont have the monies to pay the fines.

In principle its a good idea but currently it just wouldn't work.

I insured my focus last Wednesday morning, it didn't show up on the database until Saturday morning. To add to this the ANPR system doesn't use a live version of the insurance database, its a download one which could be up to a couple of days out of date (not sure if this is just the system that they use in the cars or the whole system mind). So you could be fully legal but still not able to buy petrol for the best part of a week through no fault of your own

Another thing to consider, would the petrol companies put up the price to cover the cost of the extra equipment and the training of the staff?

Presumably there would have to be an operator/staff overide system for cases like Mclovin stated? and if there was, this could lead to the staff being intimidated into overriding the sytem by the scum!

Wont make any difference at all i dont think. It will increase crime if anything, people will just keep stealing plates to get fuel. Petrol prices will be so high soon that most people with insurance (let alone without) wont be able to afford to fill up anyway, its a Fooking joke
