Slight play on Drag/Drop link? MOT Advisory advice.

Featured Replies

Hey there. I took my Polo in to get its MOT, it passed but came back with an advisory:

Nearside inner (to rack) Drag link end ball joint has slight play [2.2.B1f]

Car is a Polo Gti 2001 (6n2)

After a google i think it means Drop link.

A few questions:

Has anybody had to get one of these replaced?

Or is it fixable as in does it just need tightening (never seen one as first car so please don't laugh if that's a silly question)

Is it best to get both sides done?

How many hours labor would it take?

Rough price for either the one part or both parts/side?

Defiantly something a mechanic should do?

Thanks in advance. Phil

The part you require is #15 on the picture ( 20 €uros) and you will need 2ea of #16 (1.5€uros) & 1ea #18 (0.30€uros) per side, There are two part numbers for #15 depending on the diameter of the anti-roll bar, yours should be a 22mm (according to ElsaWin) shown in BOLD

Easy DIY fix undo #18, release #15 from wishbone, pull it off #13, then refit in reverse, torqueing #18 to 25Nm

Ah thanks! Much appreciated!

Before you buy any parts, I would suggest that you ask the testing garage to explain exactly what they are talking about, as your car does not have a drag-link and they mention 'to rack', which suggests to me that they may be referring to the track-rod to steering rack joint.

Regards.

Yea thats a good point, i dont want to get the wrong thing!

Thanks!

I recently brought a drop link for my mk6 polo, cost me £8 from a main dealer at cost!. £12 at retail. So if ever brought just fit it for peace of mind not alot of money.
