Hey guys!

Thought I'd start a build topic for the benefit of me, so I have a log of start to finish, and also for anyone else who wishes to follow my project.

So at the moment I'm only 16, my parents got me a '98 1.0 polo 6n for my 16th birthday in January.

Most people are like "Meh, it's only a 1.0 liter" My reply to that? I don't care, I have a car and you don't

If I had my way I'd have a 1.4 liter in it, however, with the price of insurance increasing year by year for new drivers it just isn't practical.

So, enough of all that. Now we get to the pictures!

It's something and nothing at the moment, but hopefully by the end it will look really nice, well that's what I'm hoping for.

This was my very first modification I made to the car, funnily enough I got the stereo for my birthday also

Then yesterday I took off all the rear badges and filled in the dip with filler. Slowly but surely it's coming up nicely, bit more filler and sanding and it should be nice and flush against the boot.

I also took off all the crappy plastic trim.

And of course, the thing which completes a polo. The club polo sticker

Also guys, would anyone have a good idea on how to get off all the sticky stuff which sticks on the badges and trim. I'm not to sure how to go about it so if anyone has any idea that would be great

Oh and currently it doesn't run which sucks. Me and my dad are trying to work out what is wrong. If anyone needs some info about it then PM me or reply here.

Welcome, filler card and thinners mate

The whole car is getting resprayed a different colour once all the body work is done.

Also the rear badge hole is fine. It's nearly flush against the boot I just have to mix up some more filler and sand it back nice and smooth.

I think he meant if its pure filler no fibreglass it will sag, nice though

Yeah I chatted to someone about that today, they said that if you build up the hole with thin even layers of filler and obviously let each layer dry then sand it back, apply another layer etc etc.

Then it shouldn't sag. If it does then I can always redo it with a metal plate or fiberglass.

Welcome along, I used carb cleaner and a credit card to get the sticky crap off, came off so easy and doesn't affect paint or owt

As the car twist's and what not that filler will pop out or crack from watching friends experiences. the badge hole should really be welded up first-

It's going in the right direction though :)

to get the sticky stuff off i use a toffee wheel. you can get them off ebay for a £5 and all you do is put it on your drill and hold it against the residue and it gets it off easily

When I de-badged mine, WD40 and a bit of turtle wax got it off in no time

Looks much better with the new wheels I picked up.

Near perfect condition, 6-7mm of tread on all the tyres. Not bad for £40

And I've now realized I am going to have to weld a plate over the badge hole on the back as the filler has already started to crack and the car has moved about 10 meters....

Yeah, I will get a plate welded in there soonish when the weather is a bit nicer.

That's all I want, a car which will get me from A to B. Plus insurance these days is stupidly expensive so the smaller the engine the better for new drivers.

I can always drop a bigger engine in it in the future.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it at all. I was speechless when my parents gave it to me.

What I'm planning on doing is de-badging it, which I have already started. And then lowering it about 60mm. I'll have to do a bit of tweaking with the lowering though otherwise I won't be able to get on the driveway :p
