Cheap car?

Featured Replies

So I think I've finally got a buyer for my RS197 so I'm after a cheap car so I dont ruin my 'loon.

Prefarbly VAG, but consider most things but it has to have a bit of "cool" factor to it.

I've been looking at all sorts but I'm struggling to think. I do like "retro" though, but not too thirsty.

<£1K Budget

What would you look for?

Does that mean if I piss in your focus tank it will be all ok?

1k won't buy you anything cool, but it'll buy you a couple of mk3 golfs. Vento GL TDI would be a good daily. You could pick them up dirt cheap even 5 years ago.

mk2 GTi is tempting. Caddy is even more tempting, but quite hard to get hold of?

I got my mk2 GTI for £500 a couple of months ago with Tax and MOT. Best buy i've had in ages!

Unless you can piss so much you can dilute half a tank of diesel, then yeah it would be fine

Not for under £1k, a classic Mini under £1k would be a complete money pit and would be covered in rust in just about every place you cared to look.

Not necessarily true I bought a mini for £300 when I wa 15 only but of rust was under the front bumper but being younge naive and a bit of a idiot I sold it for £500

Sorry mate but that's absolute bollocks

Personally I think this is cool as hell http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?...p;thread=123186

Although cool will differ from person to person, but there's shed loads of potential cool retro metal out there for under 1k

MK3 golfs go very cheap now a days

Very reliable car and cheap to run if you go for the diesel

They are cheap for a reason tho

that cav... 8-)

Thing about the Cavalier 3dr is that it represents original thinking. When you see it on the street, you look twice and consider the driver to be someone with their own style. That's why you'll see something like that in an advert, film or music video (unless they're pluggin a Fiat 500, MINI, Lambo etc etc etc as they do in MOBO music videos) Not a common choice, the Cav, so it's not costy. Yet it's interesting for the same reason.

A MK2 Golf GTi in mint condition is gonna be expensive because they're legendary. So your grand will only get a reasonable one. And in any case, it's still too normal and familiar to really be anything special.

I'm big into my old cars really.

I was looking at a hillman avenger estate the other week. Would cost a small fortune to run it though I imagine.

My dad had a chevette hse when I was a nipper, and the front of that cav just reminded me of it lol

I've had an offer put under my nose, so the clio has been sold today, just need to sort a few bits and bobs out then I'll be having a look. I think the seller would prefare if I kept quiet about it for now, but all may be revealed.
