Duno about that mikey, about 2 months ago the bp in town was a good 2p a litre cheaper than anywhere else that I found in Nuneaton... They soon knocked it back up tho and its now about a penny dearer than everywhere as per usual

Fuel sales up 80% today...an extra 32million into the Government coffers...and thats only today.

Around my way they've actually closed petrol stations because of the massive traffic jams it was causing! Such idiots, as said before, the strikes haven't even started! Luckily I've still got 3/4 of a tank so I'm sorted for a couple of weeks and don't have to sit in the jams with the rest of the belends!

Why? Why announce that? and why advise that at all?

The petrol stations round my way have actually jacked up the petrol price by 3p per litre since the 'panic buying' started. As if the price isn't high enough...which also effects everything else you buy too.

I took a day off today (From my main job) so i could work a shift for cash with a lorry, got some great looks off people when i filled up 100 litres and went inside to tell them i wanted more and then carry on filling again. One person told me it wasn't fair!

had such a mission to get fuel earlier, actually needed it too.

Queued to get into a garage that had a tanker in it filling it up, then got told they had no unleaded anyway haha, people are fucking idiots panic buying

Places near me have gone down to like 139.7 and some are like 144.9!!

I had to buy V Power this morning as it was the only thing left!! I was running on fumes too.

Thing is that all this panic buying is causing us normal sane people to have to queue for the pumps as everyone else is taking all the fuel.

Makes it look like we're panicking but were just filling up because if and when we do run low there wouldn't be any fuel left for us

I usually only top up £10 when I need but all these sods taking all the fuel forced me to top up so I stuck £60 and I was still going.. I soon stopped as I wasn't paying more then that for a fucking tank!

I only ever put bout 20 quid in at a time. Filled to the brim at the weekend cos asda was way cheap... Kinda lucky really, won't need any for a while now.... Places were rammed here today and prices up nearly 10p at esso compared to what I paid at asda a few days ago lol

Work in the oil industry, wish I could take some home with me... Not nearly as much money in it as you think, unless you are right at the top or sucking up the tax!

Ceri already knows my thoughts on this subject. I thought southerners had common sense but no, panic buying has set in down here and I refuse to be a sheep I don't want to wait in a queue for hours with my engine running just to get some fuel I'll wait till all the stupid folk have had theirs and get some nice fresh petrol once prices have gone down a couple pence because the panic buying is over.

Diesel light was on when I pulled in the garage for some cheese and wasn't even expecting them to have any left as apparently it was going ape shit earlier in the day but they did. Just had to wait a couple of mins for the bloke before me to move off from the pump and then put my normal £20 in. Didn't move the gauge up as much as normal tho

Most people have probably had their fill now tho so I can't see getting fuel being much of an issue once the stations have filled back up again. Love the fact that the fear over strikes has made the truck drivers lives even harder for them, poetic justice

^^ I agree guy. the worst are the government for talking about filling up in the first place, it will be a minimum of 11 days until a strike but everyone is buying now. it just smacks of stupidity.

Mate the whole situation is stupid, but yeah the government are sitting right at the top of the stupidity tree right now imo

absolutely, the AA condemned the governments decision to tell folk to get it whilst they can and were right to do so does go to show how many idiots are out there though. surprised there hasn't been a murder over fuel somewhere.

And I have to agree with strikes in part. Oil companies make a hell of a lot of money, it's about time they shared it around. I could get really into this discussion, by I won't. Too hard to type on a phone!

Bollocks. These tanker drivers on average earn more than twice as much as a nurse, and a nurse could tell these truck drivers a thing or two about working conditions, safety in the work place and having to do more for less.

As Andy says if they don't like it then go find another job, they won't tho because where else are they going to get paid 50k a year for driving a lorry? I think they are paid more than enough for what they do. They drive a lorry from one place to another dropping stuff off as they go, the next step down the ladder is a van courier and just under that is a pizza delivery boy

Of course they can move to another job, and I didn't say that I agree with nurses pay and conditions. I think that money everywhere should be spread more evenly. But the private sector has much more to spread about than the public sector. As i said, I'm not going to get into this, its too late

And to the people saying that the government is making more money from this, think about it. We may be buying more fuel, but we're not using any more. People are buying in case we run out, so they are in fact more likely to use less fuel if they fear a shortage (there are examples of people on this forum alone that say they will find alternative modes). So don't be so cynical, pointing the finger at government saying its a money spinner.

But the stupidity is summed up very well in Ceri's photo. People clearly aren't thinking this through at all. There is a minimum of a weeks notice for strike action. How often do most people fill their cars? Clowns

Petrol stations near me were queued tonight. Annoying thing is, i actually NEED to fill up, as i'm in the red and have places to go. Most of the panic buyers probabbly have half a tank, so its just damn selfish. I refuse to join the queues of sheep, and go BAA! but really need fuel before the weekend.

I find it astounding just how many people are actually listening to the government! Instead of 'jump' and 'how high sir?' it's 'panic' and 'for how long sirs!?'

Why are so many people listening to the crooks in parliament - is the general UK public really as moronic as this!?

The government aren't stupid, they're promoting a revenue higher than would ever have been paid, to offset the loss expected over easter.

Higher prices mean more tax per litre. Driving with a full tank uses more fuel, meaning more tax per mile. The same people will have paid more tax than they would have done, yet some people just don't get it..

It's brilliant - a genuine manufacturered tax injection right when it's needed. I actually don't care as it doesn't affect me. If anything, other people out there pumping tax into the kitty seems a good thing. I might go and jump in a que today, just to be part of it.
