Hi all,

Have recently entered the world of Polo ownership after being a diehard Mk4 Golf fan for years and am slowly identifying the bits I need to change, upgrade, etc.

One irritant is that, on the Polo I've bought, the previous owner shortened the aerial by seemingly just lopping off the top of it, thus leaving a stubby aerial with terrible signal.

So, do any other car manufacturers make a nice looking stubby aerial that will fit into the 6n base? I'd rather go with something OEMish out of preference, but would accept aftermarket if it was black matt plastic or rubber.

Any ideas? :)

There is something about this in the FAQ section where someone has used the OEM sat nav shark fin arrial. It does look pretty smart an is a straight swap.

I'd ideally just like a little stubby 'bee sting' type aerial, but without being chrome or shiny!

You could always spray paint it black of you find a nice looking one that's silver

Rich brook make some that are Matt.black and I think that they are adjustable.

You would need both really, as the first one is just the aerial and the second is the base part that attaches to the roof.

I have this exact 1 on my 9n. Looses radio recepton down to its size but is actually metal and looks good!

I just greased up the threads and put it in. (Didn't wont it seizing on my now)

If you look carefully at your photo, then you'll see that the aerial does not sit flush with the mast. Also, remember that the screw is the electrical connection to the mast. The grease layer you've applied will as act as an insulator and reduce the signal received.

There are better out there...

Suggest amplified shark fin aerial - there are lots of direct fit for VW on eBay out there. You'll get style AND function.

I know it doesnt sit flush but not really that bothered about that. And good point about the grease. It's designed for our work cars hinges etc so shouldnt be that bad. Good advise ^^^

You could use copper grease, as it's copper it shouldn't weaken the connection.

Yep^! Might get some from work. But I am sure brembo's copper grease isn't like the can stuff :/

Lol, that's the problem with these you get it all looking nice then some knob end comes along and takes it. Mine is a really nice one. It's the standard one minus all the rubber, no one will take that. Lol

I have had 3 nicked off my polo all within the space of a week having them on... now i have another on thats been on for a few months, industrial strength lock tight aint no1 getting this one! have sacrificed the radio reception but i dont care as mine headunit has CD/MP3, ipod lead, usb and auxilary inputs and a 10 discs changer in the rear... who needs the radio?!

lol thats true my friend , mine dont even have an aerial its been smoothed off , but must get anthor one for the missus motor . wen i had my mk3 golf gti i had an ak 47 bullet as an areial that i super glued in just so it wasnt stolen lol . Dave
