Wtf is that mess on the positive terminal with fuses etc and how can I get it out of the way

EDIT: It's a few wires and fuses sitting on top of the battery, secured by a bracket that clips on the top of the battery.

Think lots of VWs atleast have them, what a b-stard. Still not managed to get it off. Got dark so hard to put it all back to how it was by torch light and I'll attack it on good Friday. Which will be excellent Friday if I can get that fookin thing off.

If anyone can let me know how they got the "bracket" off the top (seems to clip in over the top of the battery) then any help would be appreciated.

Bracket for the fuse box clips into the battery top should just pop then with a flat bladded screwdriver then undo the two 10mm on the postive & negative & then there's the 13mm bolt & clamp on the bottom of the battery holding it too the battery tray

Thanks mate, got all the nuts and bolts off so the battery was lose with no terminals connected, just couldn't get that bracket off to lift the batter out (because there's wires connected to the bracket!).

Was a pain in the ar*e, spent ages trying to get it off and needed the car today so had to give up and put it back together, by torch light. Lots of fun!

Will try again today but does make me wonder if its the original battery its so reluctant to budge.

Undo the thick red and black cables (10mm) then uncliping the little connector from under the fuses. Then unbolt the 10mm nut on the posi terminal and then there are three clips one in the middle of the left side of the battery and then on either side of the middle of the battery. It will probably feel like its going to break but it should just pop off. The way I did it (above) means you can remove the whole part and take the battery out easily. Also where the 13mm bolt is there is a little bracket, this could be rusted to the battery tray so you will have to remove it. The fabric jacket stays on the battery and you can transfer it over once it's removed.

This is all sorted now! The ABS light (I suspect a faulty sensor) and EPC light (I suspect due to battery being fooked) were on and off.

Now the batteries in it all seems fine again :) So that's good!
