has anybody got a guide?

also is there any specialist tool that i will need to buy.

Cant think of any specialist tool, maybe an allen or hex drive would be required to get hub off?!? get yourself a haynes manual mate! ebay!!!

Servicing rear wheel brakes (disc brakes)

Removing and installing brake pads

Special tools and workshop equipment required

◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench

Mark brake pads when removing if they are to be reused. Re-install in their original position to prevent uneven braking!

Removing

‒ Remove wheels.

‒ → Vehicles with brake pad wear indicator:

Pull brake pad wear indicator wire out of bracket -1- and separate connection -2-.

‒ → Remove clip -1-.

‒ Press brake lever -2- in direction of arrow and unhook brake cable -3-.

‒ Take handbrake cable out of brake caliper mounting.

‒ → Remove securing bolts from brake caliper housing, to do this counterhold on guide pins.

‒ Take off brake caliper housing and secure with wire so that the weight of the brake caliper does not stress or damage the brake hose.

‒ → Remove brake pads and pad retaining springs -arrows-.

‒ Clean brake caliper housing, in particular the bonding surface for the brake pad. It must be free of adhesive and grease residues.

Use methylated spirit only for cleaning the brake caliper housing.

Installing

Before pressing the piston back, use a bleed bottle to draw off brake fluid from the reservoir. Otherwise brake fluid may overflow out of the reservoir if brake fluid has been topped up between changes of brake pads and cause damage.

‒ → Screw in piston by turning knurled wheel of special tool 3272 clockwise, do not damage protective cap when doing this.

‒ To aid screwing in, use special tool 3272/1.

◆ Fit special tool 3272 in such a way that the collar of the tool is seated on connecting piece 3272/1.

◆ If the piston is difficult to move, use a 13 mm AF open jaw spanner on the flats (arrow A) provided for this purpose.

‒ Pull protective foil off outer brake pad backplate.

‒ → Insert brake pads and brake pad retaining springs -arrows- into brake carrier.

‒ → Tighten new securing bolts onbrake caliper housing to 35 Nm, to do this counterhold on guide pins.

◆ The repair kit includes four self-locking hexagon bolts which must be installed in all cases.

‒ → Press brake lever -2- in direction of arrow and attach handbrake cable.

‒ Install clip -1-.

‒ Fit wheels.

‒ Adjusting handbrake => Page 46-55.

◆ After each brake pad change firmly depress brake pedal several times with vehicle stationary, so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.

◆ After changing brake pads check brake fluid level.

A new adjustment is only necessary after renewing, handbrake cables, brake calipers and brake discs.

‒ Remove centre console extension,

‒ Brake systemmust be free of air and foot brake must function.

‒ Depress brake pedal three times firmly.

‒ → Handbrake lever in "rest/off" position.

Tighten adjusting nut -arrow A- until lever -arrow B- lifts off the brake caliper stop.

The adjusting nut -A- must be screwed on from the end of the pull rod -1-.

‒ → When the handbrake is released the distance

-arrow- between the lever and the limit stop

on the left and right hand brake calipers

must lie in total between a minimum of

1 mm and a maximum of 4 mm,

whereby a maximum of 3 mm

must not be exceeded at any one brake.

‒ Pull handbrake on three times and then release again.

‒ Check that both wheels turn freely.

Due to the automatic rear wheel brake adjustment there is no requirement to adjust the handbrake after making new/initial adjustment.

Great guide there- but a haynes manual is a minimum requirement really for doing any job, make this your priority when you buy the discs/pads.

6N2 GTI haynes would be about 5 pages.... all of which telling you how to change the gearbox

I can only assume I've got lucky with mine cause it spent most of it's miles being towed behind a motor home.

That day will come though, cause I don't always drive nice.
