1.4TDi PD 3cylinder tuning

Featured Replies

Hi, any help me tune my 1.4TDi PD 3cylinder 75bhp. What's the best things to do? I.e best air filter, best remap. Also do any injectors fit straight in? Like 1.9/2.0TDi. Also would it benefit from a larger intercooler? Please help. Thanks. Not that it makes a different as I've said what engine it is but its the one in the 9n and the same in fabia.

Jonpdpolo had his 6n2 1.4tdi remapped to 120bhp iirc. It's the same engine too I think. Best bet is to make your mind up on other mods, and have a custom remap at the end.

Yeah that's my plan. Just want to know what/if any other injectors fit?

You only need bigger injectors if you can't get enough fuel flow with what you have tbh,

Id say a panel filter, bigger Intercooler, decat, decent service and a custom map would be good

Yes I was planning them aswell. But I thought big injectors = more diesel = more fuel = more power?

depends. you fit bigger injectors when your mapping/setup needs more fuel.

You can up fuel pressure but some ECU's or injectors won't have the power to overcome the pressure, hence injector drivers

Haha ok thanks. Your beyond me now. I'm not that clued up at engines lol. Would you pm me and tell me the best things or cheapest things to do please? Be a great help

If you put bigger injectors in and don't fiddle the parameters/adaptives in the ECU you could run the possibility of just over fueling and could end up worse off. Go with a remap etc I'd say

The 9n engine is similar to the one in mine but not an exact copy, there were two engines IIRC (75 & 85 bhp)

Best thing for diesel tuning is remap by miles, panel filter can help a little as can a better exhaust system but the remap will see best bang for buck

As for bigger intercooler, these engines come with side mount intercoolers which are more then effective for the application, apparently they'd be fine up to 140 bhp!

As for injectors, the money you'd throw at it just wouldn't be worth it in terms of gains, also injectors are roughly £250 each (you could possibly go 2nd hand but I wouldn't want to tbh), the average remap price is £300 and will see around 30bhp and 40lbs/ft increase, injectors are an unknown

The limiting factor on this engine is really the small turbo.

Everything is possible, but how much do you really want to spend is the question.

As someone who's tuned quite a few of these Polo's and Lupo's, I would say ensure the engine is healthy, good vaccum pipes etc, healthy turbo, clean filters and focus on good induction with a panel filter or cold air system, and a quality remap.

If you can bring it up to me in Halifax, I can offer a special club rate - drop me a line for a price info@premiertuning.com
