If he's going private you won't have to worry about insurance only your wallet, going through the main dealer your going to feel the pinch all I could advise would be to get your own quote for his bumper?

so when he rings me up and says honda want 800 to fit a new bumper what should i respond with? i dont want to piss him off as he calls the shots atm

should i ask him for multiple quotes? i dont have that kinda money,I'm a poor apprenctice!!! so I'm gettin ready for my years no claims to vanish FML

If it was me and i could afford to repair it,keeping the insurance companies out of it,yes,i

would but if he goes to Honda for his repair then brace yourself for some serious ringsting...

Go find some quotes yourself, I don't think the other party will be too bothered about where the bumper comes from, they'll just want it fixed (unless they are an arse hole and want to empty your wallet).

not gonna lie he seemed like that kind of guy,he could hav avoided me but didnt,he is gonna milk me for car rental costs when his stupid crv goes into paint though, what if he changes his mind and claims wiplash :(

If he goes through the main dealer it will be a fortune. Where I work Honda send there work to us. all Honda will do is take it somewhere else to get the repair done and add there own profit on so they are making Money. I would try and get your own quote but it just depends on where he wants to take his car.

anyone take a sensible guess at what I'm looking at price wise??

then go through insurance. let them sort it

Or just get your bumper painted and then say I don't no what your on about I never crashed into you haha :paranoid:

I would guess a new bumper prepared and painted would be £1000 at the main dealer they take the piss.

I had a scuff on my bumper and my light VW quoted me about £600 as the would need to strip the car down to do it.

I got chips away to do the scuff for £100 the light is not that fixable but you don't notice it.

You pay though every hole you have at the main dealer as labour is about £50-100 per hour

Get him to get a few quotes (3) or you will get quotes for him, from reputable independent body shops they will be cheaper than main dealer and some give a hire car free.

He may be pulling a fast one only going to the dealer. You want to get written quotes for the work.

My sister had her drivers door damaged and my brother in law got 3 quote 2 said new door and 1 said they could fix it they were all different quotes ranging from £600-£900.

You defo need 3 or more quotes. If you make sure they are a company the guy can see is reputable he may well change his mind on main dealer, end of the day it needs doing cheap (for you) and well (for him).

Also if you do go down the insurance route you both will be up for bigger premiums as the insurance ba"£eds slide the price up if it was your fault or not.

dont take anyones word for it bud, same thing happened to me said we would go privately...he went through insurance and now i have a crash against my name at 17.Hope it goes well for you mate though.

Why should he compromise? He's not gonna put himself out for you, he's not gonna accept a pattern part and inferior paint job in replacement for genuine original Honda bodywork.. Why should he?

This is gonna affect the value of his vehicle, he's got enough going on in his life without this drama, i can imagine he isn't too pleased about this.

And all you're interested in is how much this is gonna inconvenience you?!

He's gonna want it done properly, with as little fuss as possible, and with absolutely no cost to him. And so would i.

Get ready to make a claim.

You don't have to get the work done at Honda to have original parts the prep and paint will cost more and as the guy above says his firm get Honda's paint shop work so you would be best off to go direct to them and ask for the original parts.

One thing I will add if he's going to sort the job himself make sure you get him to show you the written quote, don't want him to try and fob you off. Saying its so and so pounds when it's actually cheaper and he pockets the money.

If I was you I'd go through insurance, they sort it all. I'm guessing this is your first year driving? So won't affect you massively, loss off your first ncb. I had an accident in my first year and my insurance didn't go up the next year, if your worry is that you can't afford it then insurance is the logical answer. Sucks but it sounds the best way.

take the insurance hit. your premium won't go up as much as you'd have to pay for the damage.

good shout there,I'm 21 atm gaining my 2nd years ncb (i haven't crashed in my 4 years just lost the oppurtunity to own a car :( ) but i shall turn 22 then my renewal is due that week, worth the punt as back up plan if its bucks!!!! cheers guys

Google private car insurance settlement and you can print off a form that both of you can sign and keep to say that a paying party pays compensation with no admission of guilt, and the form states its legally binding.

I bumped into the back of a lass a month back, quote was 100 quid so paid it outright and got a form signed and gave them a copy.

But the guy has every right to take it wherever he wants be it main dealer and doesn't have to provide 3 quotes, it's a hassle he probably could do without.

If the cost of the repair works out a good amount more than your excess then use your insurance otherwise just pay it privately.if you have a very high excess say 500 quid, paying 700 privately would be reasonable. If you are excess is like 200 then just go thru them.

Might be worth when you get the quote from him, doing a few online quotes to find out how much of a price hike declaring th accident will cost you!

The bumper for the crv will be around £300 and then there is the strip and re-fit prep, paint and polish, and the paint materials. It won't be cheap through a main dealer. Just go thought the insurance and th that guy can't rip you off for money. I lost 2 years no claims and I went up by about 100 a year. I wouldn't worry about it pal.

you don't pay an excess on 3rd party claims, only for repairs to your own car.

you will have to declare the accident to your insurers, even if it doesn't result in a claim.

tbh i would just claim, thats what insurance is for. also i doubt the increase in the premium would cover the cost of the repairs anyway.

we get so many customers with the same issues coming to us daily, if you can afford to pay for the guys then up to you to do so, a new bumper will be anywhere from £280+vat upwards, a removeal and refit (inc painting bumper) will be anywhere from £300+ at a good bodyshop so on the cheap it may cost but thats just silly guess work, my advice would be to alow him to claim for the repairs on your insurance but do not claim for your own so then you dont have to pay your excess, then simply pay private for yours repairing, if it is a simple bumper scuff then i cant see it costing more than £200 which I'm sure is alot cheaper than your excess, also speak to your insurance prior to the guy claiming as you may get away with only loosing a years no claims, hope this helps

Ah right never knew that. I wouldn't declare an accident to the insurance if sorted privately, I know your meant to but they can get stuffed

Bit of a heads up mate i work in a bodyshop which is honda approved, the bumpers come colour coded anyway so no need to worry about getting it painted etc so honda wont rip you off too much!

After 11 months of driving and i was 18 i had a pretty serious crash, head on with a vectra in my polo..... my filter light was green to cross over the other lane (woman decided to jump red light) just so happened the jump camera didnt work.... i got blamed as expected young driver, modded car etc

the woman claimed for car and whiplash, my 2 passengers who were injured did too after i told them too...

anyway i was at the time paying 1700 for my insurance...... once my policy ended i changed insurers (DIRECT LINE ARE COCKS NEVER USE THEM)

and believe it or not my insurance was 1740 with accident declared so yes it went up and i lost a years ncb but it wasnt drastic.
