Year/Reg: Jan 1986/C

Mileage: 95,600

MOT: 12 months

Tax: Not been taxed since 2002!

Location: Leamington Spa

Price: £800ono.

HK 1272cc solid lifter engine

Pierburg carb with manual choke fitted

4-speed

Stops, starts and drives fine

Service history

3 registered keepers from new:

First owner from new to 43k, letter from owner in history, serviced himself

Second owner bought at 43k in 1992, and then passed on to family member - possibly because they emigrated, as there are a few (expensive!) VW garage

receipts from France.

Third owner apparently stopped using the car around the end of 2001, as the last tax disc expired Jan 2002 and the history shows it being on 94k in Feb 2001 and it's only just over 95k now. I suspect that given the condition it must've been garaged all that time!

I bought this from a trader that'd re-commissioned it and MOT'd it for his brother to use, but his brother decided to go down the Ford route like him instead. I've just got a massive bollocking from the other half for coming home with another car - my Mk3's in the bodyshop; so I had a Polo-shaped space in the garage to fill - made sense to me... Anyway, so it's straight up for sale!

Needs rear boot lock barrell (missing)

Slight rust scabs on right of boot

Driver's side rear lamp cluster is a squareback part, not coupe (slightly different shape)

Driver's seat cable needs replacing to tilt forward (can flick the latch manually in the meantime)

Heater temperature adjustment arm broken off - please see photo

Driver's side washer jet hose needs replacing - please see photos

Quick hassle-free sale preferred, and ideally to someone that's going to treat it as it deserves - it's too good to rat look!

Cash sale, no swaps - unless you've got early Polo tuning goodies.

Much more detailed description compared to the Ebay advert. You learn something new every day never knew there were 4 speed boxes!

Yep, early ones came with 4-speeds. Not looking to turn a profit on this, just want my money back on it.

how did you convert the carb to manual choke mate? the autochoke on the 1.3 I'm planning on using next month is nackered!!!

ps: sorry to clutter your thread, can delete this if you want. cheers

Now has a boot lock again!

Correct rear cluster and new heater control going on at the weekend. Will also sort the washer jet hose too and give it a decent clean.

If the 4 gears are putting people off I've got a spare 5-speed 'box in the garage.

Would you take £700?

  • Author

Thanks for the offer - but I've currently got an offer of £770, though it's not sold 'til the cash is in my hand!

Is this still available?

  • Author

Yep, still for sale at the moment!
