My MOT expires 15/5/12, and earliest I can present it is 14/4/12.

I wanted to book it for 14th, and rang my usual place and he said he couldn't, but he could do 13th, id forgotten dates so said was fine.

Anyway, is it actually possible to do it a day before "the earliest you can present your car for an MOT" date, or will I have to wait?

Want it going ASAP as gives me chance to sort any issues, didn't really wanna take it the next weekend due to spring fest and stuff.

Any ideas? :)

Its all on a computer system now too, so I don't want it to invalidate my current MOT!

& Eric my only concern is emissions tbh, it's passed the last 2 with no advisories, but not sure on emissions.

I mean it has a cat, but, AFR at 2-3k under light throttle is like 15:1 which should be ok, but under free revving as per test it's like 13:1, which is too rich!

dude just lean it out for the test and drive slow on the way there and back!

The reason for the date is to preserve the current MOT expiry date.

If you present it over 1 month early you will lost 1 months MOT. I.e you will get 1 year from that date, and not from when your current MOT expires.

So if it fails - is it still valid til may 15th?

The question of taking, and failing, an early MOT has become slightly blurred since insurance and MOTs became computerised; I don't know how much they talk to each other, but in theory you would still have a valid MOT certificate for Police purposes, but that might not work if you've had an accident and your insurance company can tap a few buttons and see when your car was last tested and find out the result.

I would guess it also depends on what it fails on....bald tyres, deffective brakes etc, these would make it dangerous to drive, not just unroadworthy, whereas say failure due to a numberplate bulb doesnt make the car dangerous to drive.

With reagrds to the failure thing, my Astra failed its MOT on too much rust and they let me drive it away (still had 2 weeks on current MOT) and didnt get pulled by any police or anything.

I spoke to garage earlier - basically if i take it earlier than the early date, can still be tested, but i get 12 monsths from that date, not 12 months from 15th may or whatever, so ill be able to take it march next year instead of april (earliest)

MOT will still be valid until 15th may if it fails, and tbh, i dont think it will fail on anything dangerous other wise i wouldnt drive it, i check it over often enough :)

yee but even after springfest, you have like 2 or 3 weeks before it runs out, and your probably only gonna have problems with emmisions

i want it out the way before i get hit with a shit load more college work lol
