Hi there everyone.

My name is Stig, and I`m from Norway and I own a Polo G40 from 1992, one of only a few in the country.

I bought it last october, off the roads since 2007, so it needed a good service!

This how it looked when I picked it up:

- KW v1 coilovers ( hate them, wayyyy to soft)

- Borbet T 8x14 ET20, with ContiSport 195/45-14.

- 256mm Scirocco front brakes

- Rear disc conversion.

- New timingbelt, waterpump, th.housing, oil filters etc.

- Need a new headgasket.

This looks like its got potential to be a real clean car. Looking forward to updates :)

So, it hasent been a update in a long time. But things do happen!

Firstly I started taking the engine out.

Due to the fact that the engine has covered over 120k miles, and not been used for the last 5 yeras it is best to take a real service, and change some gasket and other parts.

So engine is out and I have started the big job to clean the enginebay.

I think the engine has leaked coolingfluid for many years, the gearbox and enginebay was totally covered with sticky grease, but it is getting better.

I am also unsure about the wheels for the car. Today I have Borbet T 8x14, but I think of change them to Dynamics 1.2 7x15. Here without engine in the car:

I also had a kind of bisarr holiday.

Me and my GF went to Germany to get a 89`Polo Bready with only 34k miles in the clock. The car is really nice and solid.

But on the Autobahn the headgasket blew, so the car is still in Germany and we are back in Norway.

I am not shure it is only the headgasket, could aswell be crankshaft bearings due to loss of oil pressure.

Well to be hounest I dont really know. They are ordered as ET30, but they are more like ET35.

I have another sett aswell, and they are ET 30, and the design of the center is not identical.

I may add a small spacer, time will show :)

So, it has been a while since the last update.

Things have changed over the past months, I have bought myself a old house that needs some tlc.

And I have also managed to get some work done on the Polos.

The G40 got a engine refurb, and a lot of engine degreasing. It no looks way better, although far from good enough.

This is how the chassis leg looked like:

Next on the agenda is to buy a new exhaust, but not decided on the brand and style of the tip.

I now have to move the car to a new location, because my parents have sold their house and I will loose my garage.

So I will take some better pictures of the car later next week when I have some short term plates for it :)

I even bought my self a new trackday Polo.

So here is the new trackday car:

It is a nice car with a lot of history in it. Winning races on both Nurburgring and Spa.

Yeah, that yellow breadvan is nice. The G40 is nicer though.

I think the brake servo is 7", and this car has a 22.2 MC, with 256/226 discs so the brakes are quite good.

So I have driven the Polo 80 miles after the engine refurb, with only some small problems with misfire under part throttle below 2500 rpm. Have not adjusted the ignition, just bolted it on so I will start checking the sensors and adjust the ignition to get rid of the misfire. Did not have this prior to the refurb.

So the parts changed in this refurb is:

- Hydraulic tappers.

- Headgasket, incl all other gaskets on engine.

- Piston rings, all bearings in the bottom end.

- Clutch bearing

- Oil and filter

- Toothies from MaxRPM

- New silicone hose from charger to intercooler from MaxRPM

Timingbelt and water pump was changed earlier.

So after a quick clean it looks like this:

The next project with this car will be a new ss exhaust and give it a good clean outside and inside. prob E30 airvents, and Fabia frontlip.

I have looked at different brands of exhaust, but I am leaning against Bastuk, altho it costs approx. 650 euros.

So, I now have owned the G40 for 20 months, and I have driven it 125 miles total.... Enjoying every minute of it :)
