Wheels and Tyres: 14" x 6J Golf/Vento steels (Mini G60's), 185/55 Nexens and 5mm spacers all round.

Exterior Styling: Catalyst and Coupe badges removed, other badges sprayed black. British pressed plates with Autohaus Wolfsburg surrounds. Bonnet bra. Tinted reverse light.

Interior Styling: OMP 330mm suede rally/drift style wheel.

ICE and Security: Trusty standard stereo and 20 year old speakers!

Picked up my new polo today, a 1992 GT Coupe in Tornado Pink

All completely standard with 12 months MOT.

Seems to be a good runner, was a bit spluttery at first as it had been sat for a week, and it wouldn't have helped that there was virtually no fuel in it, as i ran out on the way to fill up! Had a little bit of a splutter in what i can only describe as torrential rain on the way home but apart from that it did the 230 miles no problem.

Could benefit from a service to get it running smooth as you like, so will sort that soon.

Anyways heres a few pictures:

Overall i'm pretty happy with the condition of it for what i paid, i don't fancy paying the silly amounts of money a nice clean GT can go for nowadays

Hopefully the weather will be nice tomorrow and i can start tidying it up, a good session with the buffer to get the paint shining, and give the bumpers and plastics a once over with the heat gun and bumper gel. Also that front panel is pickled with rust scabs so gonna rub that down and paint it black. And need to see about getting that bent rear corner under the light straightened out.

Will be swapping the 60/40 kit (got new top mounts to go on too) and wheels off my 1.0l until i refurb my mini G60's, want to keep this one looking subtle. Would also like to swap the rear shock/spring set up for coilovers at some point but thats later on down the road.

That's pretty much all i can do until i'm in the $$$ again now, then i'll be looking at buying things like:

- Armoured door plates to keep the scum out

- Poloace chip

- Stainless 4 Branch

- Newman 268

- some sort of induction kit

- Mk2 golf callipers and discs

- ARB blocks and bushes

And interior wise i fancy a nice rally style dished wheel and black corrado fronts!

I think thats it comments and ideas welcome! i want to keep it looking subtle from the outside and just make it a pokey little fun car to drive

It's almost a shame to modify it - got all the original bits there. Even looks like it's got the same... Blaupunkt?... stereo as my parents' old Mk2 Golf.

A lot of the mods i'm planning could be swapped back to standard if neccessary in the future, and looks wise i want to keep it looking low key and original anyway. I know what you mean though it's nice to keep things original, but I'm not paying for bodywork and I'm 19 going from a 1.0l, i'm gonna want to have a little tinker

Ask him! I know of a Polo saloon that was sold by the same dealership as my car only a few months after mine. I'm gagging to see so I can take measurements of the original dealer numberplate and window sticker.

ah pity yours wasn't from the same place as this! still have original plates and sticker in the top of the rear window. you planning on making some replicas of the originals I'm assuming?

cheers bud hopefully it won't take long to turn it around! had a little tinker today, rubbed down the front panel and sprayed it black til i buy a new one. swapped my brighter bulbs and matt black badge and grill over too, will hopefully get some more little bits done during the week.

Don't get me wrong, that wasn't saying don't - mine was totally unmolested when I bought it. It's not now...

Even if you had tried to keep it standard, the amount of time you've had yours it never would have stayed that way

Plans for the exterior for this are a bit of lowerage and mini G60's, and obviously getting the paint back to red! Keeping it subtle.

Oh and forgot to mention the stereo is Panasonic not Blaupunkt, would that be the original?

Ah yeah, that'd be right thinking on it, we had the Blaupunkt as a dealer upgrade in the Mk2 breadie we had at the same time as the Golf.

Had the Mk2 Golf on a '90 H, collected on August the first the day the reg came out. It was the first H reg car I'd seen, I was well excited

So yeah I reckon that'll be the original unit. :)

Ah fair play! I don't even mind the standard stereo atm i just have it tuned into Radio 1 constantly as it's all i listen to at work anyway, even the standard speakers seem to be doing the job fine! Might just leave it

And i'm keen for a bargain haha, nah i do think i got quite lucky with this one!

Done a few little things over the week, crap weather has held up any decent progress though :( Fitted a set of new spark plugs and bunged some redex in the tank in a hope to sort the hesitant throttle ( doesn't seem to have worked ). Put my Audi wheels on, got the dent under the rear light straightened out so the rear is looking tidier now. Oh and put my spare clubpolo sticker in the side window

Hopefully tomorrow wont be sun-rain-sun-rain-sun-rain every 5 minutes and some more will get done with some photozz!

Little update, bought this today:

Asked my mate if he can get me some bolts to fit it tomorrow cos I'm working all day, so hopefully can fit it tomorrow evening.

Still no updates regarding polishing or lowering, these bloody april showers aren't allowing anything atm, wish i had a nice big double garage

Put the wheel on last night, so much nicer to drive with, only thing is i keep missing the indicator cos it's a bit further away now Definitely prefer the suede to leather though!

I'm letting my dad do that, he knows what he's doing. I'd fuck the paint up haha. It's so annoying driving round in a pink car though, it would be done by now but every chance we've had it's been f*cking raining!!!!!!

Started polishing my tornado red polo the other night, hasn't had a polish for 4-5 years probably.. its tedious. Paint feels like sandpaper.

Yeah mate they could do with a refurb though, bit tatty now. I want to put it on mini G60's soon, however they need refurbing too

haha rough, will be worth it in the end though! always see pictures of red cars before and after polishing and think.... surely not! just gotta battle through it

Managed to make a start on the buffering today, got one side, the rear and half the roof done before the weather got too bad again.

Paint comes up alright, even got water beading on it now haha! So yeah, cheers dad

When the rest is done and lowered, should be happy days! Gonna replace the black sticker in the plate recess, get some pressed plates made up and wolfsburg surrounds. Need to find the heat gun or borrow one and get the bumpers etc. all back to black and that should be the outside done!

I'm not sure about interior really, i know i want it darker though so maybe some black corrado front seats and a bit of mix n matching to get the rears in too. I thought about the later black Coupe S interior but i reckon i'll have major trouble sourcing one! I'd love a cage too, can get a 6 point bolt in cage from safety devices but they have no price on the website, and I'm too scared of hearing the figure to ring up haha!

Engine wise i'm hoping to eventually get a Newman 268 cam, poloace chip (doubt i'll go for the 8k), stainless manifold and exhaust. Just bought a BMC replacement filter which i'll use with a drilled airbox.

It could do with a new clutch though so best get that sorted first as it'll be a fair wedge of dosh, and i'll have the cambelt done at the same time cos i got no idea when it was last changed!

As for dark interiors... My whole interior is black, doorcards and carpet and seats! It's the Boulevard spec interior from the later MK2Fs. I'd say one of those would be very easily sourced, however the front seats aren't exactly bucketed!

Sounds good, what sort of horsepower do you think you'd get from that set up? I'd love some more poke but for the minute 45bhp will have to do.

Are the doorcards black standard? I didn't realise any models came with them, thought they were mostly that horrible dark greenish grey kind of colour. I thought i was gonna have to dye mine!

As for the seats, unless some darker ones that are just as good quality (i.e. GT spec or higher or Corrado/Scirocco) appear then these will be staying for a good while. Can't knock them for comfort and they do look nice, just don't really fit in with how i'd want it to look in the end! Plus first and fore most engine/suspension/brakes are all gonna take priority over interior

And with that set up i imagine it should make a good 90bhp, they're pokey and fun enough with the standard 75, add a bit of noise and it should be many a smile :p

mate 45bhp had to do me for nearly 3 years ahah, they are dog slow but can't knock them for reliability! and you can still have fun with them if it can corner ok but if you've had enough, keep an eye out for a half decent GT before they cost like £2000
