I don't want this to just turn into another "thinking about making a pick-up" thread that never gets built but I'm seriously considering it. Seriously.

I'm wanting some propper advice from someone thats already completed the conversion and gone through the SVA test, and can tell me exactly what strengthing pieces need to go in or even a list of what the SVA assesors will be looking for. I've done quite a bit of searching on google but can't seem to find the answers that I'm looking for. I know its a well asked question through out forums that never gets answered properly so I'm not expecting too much info but any will be greatly appreciated.

SVA maybe interesting though, it seems a bit of a lost catergory from what iv found, did you have to get the engine change SVA'd?

i dont think the angle of that pic or using paint helps with it looking short haha :) would be short though, as with most hatches

Haha, i don't know how to use photoshop. Ye i agree with the last comments in regards to it been too short, i think the angle of the pic gives an illusion of the rear quarter been shorter than it actually is.

As to the engine needing an SVA, no it just needed a mechanical engineers report from my local mot centre.

I love the look of it as a pick-up though plus it would be a massive weight reduction which equals faster car lol.

The dilemna I've got is if i cut and shut it into a pick up, pay £400 for the SVA or how ever much it costs and it fails, it could never see the road again ha.

I'm looking into svas myself for my mk2 where did you get the £400 from I've been told £450 yet on the actual vosa website it says £130 odd and then £28 for a retest which isnt too bad tbh if it fails you sort out the reason like an mot then retest it

and just over engineer on the strengthening should be fine then

Can you not phone an SVA test place and ask the question? surely they should be in the know?

I would have thought it would end up heavier, you need to reinforce behind the cab etc. So you are putting all the heavy stuff back in. Also you will get a lot more drag with the back cut off.

I helped my dad build a one off T4 pick up and when we cut the back end off that it weighed nothing, and thats like the size of a whole 6n!

Pick up's ain't a great idea for quick little cars, a mate had a nova pick up years back that had a tuned red top in it and he said once it started getting into triple figures it used to start doing all sorts of shit that it shouldn't. Sure I remember him saying that the rear end used to feel like it was lifting at high speeds

Ye i see what you mean, i never took drag into consideration. One of my mates has a very fast caddy though and that seem ok lol

is the caddy not a 6n?

i know the pick up is a skoda felicia - but surely its easier and better to lop the back of the van and use the skoda parts to make better pickup - or modify the polo 6n panels to fit the squarer pick up????

The caddy is only shaped like a 6n, its actually more golf. His vr6 engine would just bolt into one and the proportions of the caddy would be much better suited to the pick up shape

Ye the plan was to get the rear bulk head and trim from either a caddy or a felicia pick-up and modify them to fit the 6n so its all neat and tidy ha, or just use the bulk head and chequer plate the back. i didn't really want to start again with a completely different car though.

If you start again at Least you won't have a fully fecked car if it does go wrong whereas if you start chopping the 6n up and something fudges up then you're down shit creek

Yeah I'd probably keep yours as it is mate, it's unique as it is,

Maybe do another as a chop, at least if it messes up or fails tests you won't have ruined a good car

The caddy van is a Polo/Seat saloon/estate chassis (6k?). I use caddy forum quite a bit as used to have the felicia pickup and the van/pickup share no components. That's why its such a pain in the arse to lover the pickup. Have to use either the cheap ebay springs or bodge focus/fiesta coilovers to get really low.

So glad you've just told me that as I'm watching one on ebay that goes off in 8 hr, i was guna try and do it up but its obviously not that streyt forward.

The 6K saloon/estate would have better proportions. But then you have to think would it just be easier to get a felicia pickup or whatever? Sure it'll be unique

As said caddy aint a 6n but you'd be surprised what parts are straight fit caddy/ibiza/6n/classic/variant etc etc ....

I'm still to see a pick up conversion that looks any good ...
