Mopeds

The other thing you should look out for is looking like a clown on a monkey bike being 6'6.

I hate mopeds!

'CHANGE GEAR THEN! OH, YOU CANT'

Vespas, lambretta and other scooters (with gears) are awesome, i'd love one, but i'd have to have a bloody horrible moped first!

Who ever said 125s can't reach 70 is bullshitting, I have a Honda sh125 completely standard I get 85 down hill 75-80 normal and I'm not the smallest, as said get a 125 4 stroke pref Honda so much more reliable, I've had derbi senda, speedfight 2,speedfight 3 aprillia rs50 and the Honda as been the best out of all of them, I can't recomend the Honda sh125 enough it is really that good! Maybe not the coolest looking but nippy, lots of luggage room,90+mpg and haven't had one problem yet and I've covered 600 miles in 3 weeks. As said if you've held a driving licence for over 2 years I think don't quote me and you do a cbt you CAN ride a 125

You dont need to have held a car licence for the CBT? Id reccomend a c90. they're basic, cheap, reliable and most importantly shitloads of fun. Lights tend to be weak as fuck though.

This boy knows

If you want a cheap and reliable ped don't bother with a two stroke, yes they can be tuned up to go ok, which puts strains on all the major components and failure occurs. If its just cheap a built proof you want then get a cub90, you will be paying upwards of £400 for a good one that's on the road but it will pay for itself in no time simply by not breaking

They are not pretty and although they can move with the traffic they are not fast but they are fun to plod about on, easy to ride, easy to work on (not that you ever need to), they are cheap as hell on fuel and they don't die they just get cooler.

they don't die they just get cooler.

Unless you have a certain affinity for trying to get both wheels off the deck over speedbumps, wheelying or jumping stairs. They tend to die after that, no matter how many times you weld the frame :'(

To be fair, saving £80 for a house as you say.... I'd just keep the car! Thats £960 a year which is F all towards a deposit on a house!! Don't bother, but on the falling off thing... you won't they piss easy to ride haha and I 6ft and had no issues when i had one when i was 16. Plus you'll hate it when it rains which lets be honest in this country is a lot!

Oh and to clear other peoples comment up.... if you do a CBT you can ride a moped OR a bike up to 125cc on L plates.

You don't need a car license and having a car license DOES NOT mean you can ride a moped or 125 on L plates without doing a CBT unless you have a license that was before 1996(I think thats the year or some time around then!).

Hi folks.

So as some of you may know I'm currently in the process of buying my first house and I've encountered a financial issue.

My pay is around £840 per month and I'm looking at the following if i move out.

Outgoings £760

Incomings £840

Unless you already have money in the bank i wouldn't be buying a place with your budget. Don't take that the wrong way,

Could be renting? In which case the rent normally costs more than the mortgage!

If he isn't however i totally agree.

did my CBT on hired Piaggio Zip, went out and bought a Vespa PK50 4 gears of power top speed 35mph.

Was awesome until it stolen. I can't have anything nice.

If you are over 17? Def the CBT and get a bike licence!!! or at least so you dont have to ride with L Plates constantly, You could get a 1990's Kaw ninja for less than £500 and if you get a ped under that price its gonna be either a jap crap heap or second hand(btw peds that are second hand are abussed and japs fall apart). Ninja's are quick not to mention you get so much more looks and respect on the road. Good luck

japs are fine is the chinese ones that are terrible, there is nothing wrong with yamaha, honda and the like.

its huatian lingfingjungwang and specialfwiedwice that are poor quality hence why they cost less £500 brand new.

My mate got a kwak zxr400 for like a grand then the engine fucked and he's just got a Suzuki Sv650 for 600 while he fixes it. Bikes are real cheap and so much better

Just to make the finances clear as some people have commented.

Its my first house and the deposit is 20k for a 120k house which I've saved myself and sorted the mortgage for. I've got 30k in the bank currently and I'm estimating the solicitors fees and surveys will cost around 5k.

That leaves 5k for emergencies. The £80 is what i estimate ill have left having payed the mortgage the bills (based on the previous house owners bills) bought food and is based on me having a car.

The missus is finishing uni so its only going to be for about 6 months so my plan is to use as little of the 5k as possible and try to sort the house out a bit.

The £80 isn't enough which I'm aware of so the plan is to get a moped and garage the car and take it off the road. That effectively changes the £80 leftover to £160 as the mopeds going to cost less than half the amount that a car takes to run.

I'm off to look at the one I've been offered on Monday and if its any good based on the replies so far ill probably buy it. And if i get on well with the 50cc ill get a 125 later on when we have two incomes and just insure the car on a low miles policy or even sell it.

This site is quite useful: http://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/yourm...et_planner.aspx

Has everything on there and things you might have missed out so might be worth filling that out and seeing where your at budget wise :)

And with my experience when they fuck up, they REALLY fuck up and a right pain the arse to fix, wouldnt think it

exactly that.

they're good on fuel, great fun, dont ride like a idiot and you wont come off (ALL of my friends did bar me), watch out for others on the road. but dont take that moped just cause its cheap. my advice is get something faster. it might be a bit more expensive but you wont regret it. you don't know how slow 30 is, and yes you can derestrict them etc, i had mine going quite fast with a lot of work, but you'd be better just buying a 125 to start

OK just to complete the thread i suppose. I went out tonight with £300 in my pocket and returned some time later with this:

fb6ab238.jpg

Its an 06 piaggio zip 50cc 4 stroke. It can be de-restricted to do 45ish so that's fine with me the insurance de-restricted is £105 for a year and its in great nick. I even got the helmet some gloves a cover and a lock for that price so I'm pretty happy really.

Thanks for all the advice

Absolutely loved mine.

Was tuned a lot and lifted the front wheel blipping the throttle but yeah.

Even a standard one derestricted and playing around with rollers to suit your size will help.

To be honest falling off shouldn't be an issue if you're sensible, worst thing about bikes is people in cars/vans/buses etc

Piaggio Zip's are the easiest thing in the world to ride.
