right so at work today a car came in and said they went to halfords to get an indicator bulb changed and they some how dropped the bulb into the headlight when changing it and they left it in there and put another bulb in the holder and put it back together like nothing was wrong. tut tut

well not their fault but i went to buy a spark plug for my motorbike, got outside and thought its best to check it and sure enough someone had put their old soot covered one in there glad i checked and they swapped it over no problems

I went into a Halfords near me a while back and asked if they had any timing lights.

Sent my mate in for a waterpump for a 72 Beetle once. He was in there for a while.

Followed the Halfords wiper blade guide once, for my wife's old 206.

It gave two sizes, one for driver's side, one for passenger side.

Both were wrong.

Haha, once went in for a NEW shape bettle headlight, he asked if i wanted it fitting. i said i don't think you'll be able to get it in, he gave me the step aside look and smug grin. needless to say after id let him play for 10 mins he couldn't get it in and walked away tail between legs so i went and set an hour a side at work and reluctantly did it myself. Headlight out job unless you've got hands like jeremy beadle

Oil Filters were at one time not counted as a Oil Change essentials......

I don't even bother going anymore. Either local motor factors of the dealers for me.

The thought of them putting kids bicycles together makes me cringe let alone cars.

And them specification books are about as much use as a penis to a nun, was passing the other day and needed a tail light bulb, looked in the book and it was telling me it was a stop / tail light.

I took a stab in the dark and got the same as what's in a mk3 and most others to find I got the wrong wattage, couldn't bear the embarrassment to take them back mind so went elsewhere.

Halfords have their strong points, but i think they should stick to putting stuff on shelves for customers to choose and purchase.

I went there one sunny morning, about five years ago now, for a head gasket for a '95 Fiesta 1.3i. I chose Halfords because it was sunday, real spares suppliers weren't open, and i needed the car for monday because the Polo was off the road. "Aint got any, can't get any, sorry." said the spotty lad, looking at the computer.

So i asked "What about for a 1.3i '95 Escort..?" To which he said he had one in stock.

So i said, "I'll have that one then, it's the same part mate."

Needless to say the Fiesta, complete with Escort gasket that'd probably been on the shelf unsold since Escorts had all rotted away, whisked me faultlessly to work the next day.

Tbh you can have occurrences or pick faults with a lot of places, I wouldn't pay anyone to fit something to my car and I'm happy to select what I want off the shelves.

You're not gotta get experienced mechanics working in Halfords between uni lectures tbh

Lol that halfords advert remade is straight to the point of there bikes. Crap!!! I had a £200 shock wave and It lasted about a year and then broke say every 2months, my dad paid for the fixing as it wasn't down to me for it braking. Needless to say we were mugs and it broke for the last time and we got a quote for £120 to fix it. My dad was!! Going to pay it but I said to him not to. (we spent over 400 inc the start of price). Never again will I have a halfords bike!!! Not even there hight priced GT's. So I've spent since then £1,000 on bikes. Got a loverly Scott aspect and then that got robbed :( now a brand new 2012 (was the first in the contry) cube bike. Awesome bike! Worth every penny of the of £700. Halfords are ok for there bulbs and stuff but I would never put majour parts from them on my car. No way!!

But changing a bulb... i don't know how stupid you have to be to get a garage to do it for you anyway. Within reason, i know some cars take silly amounts of work just to do a simple task like that.

Halfords offer a fitting service for wiper blades too.

I'm sorry but if you can't fit wiper blades it's a wonder you can tie your own fucking shoelaces.

My GF used to work at a baby products shop and she was properly trained on which baby seats fit in which cars and how they should be fitted to meet the required standards etc etc.

A customer came in one day and said she'd bought a baby seat from Halfords, that Halfords staff had recommended and had it fitted there, but she wasn't sure if they'd done it correctly and wanted it checking. My GF went out and had a look. The baby seat was completely the wrong sort for their car, was fitted incorrectly and was now where near safe to use.

Needless to say, NEVER get Halfords to choose and fit a baby seat for you
