Just thought I would share my experience here...

My renewal arrived yesterday through Hastings - £1042.

Naturally I headed to the comparison sites and my best quote was £801 from Admiral, which at 20% less than my renewal, I was happy with! Rang them to discuss paying monthly - worked out at £1200 for the year because they had done a 'single payment discount' in the £801 quote! Crazy! Real cheeky way of getting to the top of the list.

So, I went to second best Sainsburys (£834) and noticed 3rd best was Sainsburys Premium (£956).

Money Supermarket didn't tell me the difference between the two so I went to Sainsbury's own website and found out (not a massive difference, nothing important to me as I'm also paying £49.99 for VW's ensurance policy).

Whilst there - I noticed if I went direct and entered my Nectar card number I could save up to 20% off my quote!

5 minutes later, quote done, Nectar card number included and my price was £763!

Morals of this story - comparison sites are not all they're cracked up to be, get a nectar card and always go direct!!!

very true. funny tho I've been with admiral all the time and been right good. I'm only 19 and inshuring a golf mk5 1.9di and its not to bad for me age tbh.

but i can get stupid quotes on these compare sites.

If you are ever going to pay monthly, don't. Get a credit card, pay it in one go, and then pay the credit card debt off throughout the year. Most often you'll pay no interest for maybe 6 or even 12 or 18 months. Cheaper and much more flexible

i tried all the comparison sites today and coop came up trumps every time at 469 there or there about until i went on go compare and fluxdirect came back with a quote of 236 for the year just shows even with these comparison sites it pays to shop about

I'm only paying £650 now.

True man, To many people think its the cheapest way but it isn't by a long shot. I am slowly just looking for quotes for me when I pass my test and all the comparison sites are offering like 4-7K for me. So my mate told me about LV and as my dads with them I get a slight discount. cheapest so far with them is £3,100 but that is still to HIGH :(... Moral of the story like above. GO DIRECT!!

I had exactly the same quick quote with Sky Insurance, only to ring them and get £1600 thrown out at me!

They assume you're 50, drive 1,000 miles a year and have a garage compound with security like thought Knox. They're a waste of time when you want a real quote.

If you want a confirmed quotation it's a simple case of speaking to us on the phone, our website makes it quite clear the the 'quick quotation' is exactly that, a quick quote based on certain assumed information.

Looks more like a generic number to me. Can hardly be called a quick quote. Surely also there are certain assumptions you can't make. You got my age wrong - how do you assume my age!?

Won't ever use you so no point you trying to convince me!
