9n3 3dr rear speaker help!?

Featured Replies

okay, I've got the rear trim off my 3dr 9n3 (s base model) with the hope of finding some mounting points to attach speakers behind the plastic grille. however, there arent any visible ways of mounting anything properly without cutting stuff up and screwing big holes through the trim..

I know the spec'd up models have speakers in the back so it must be possible, just cant work out how to do it. if anyone has done it before or know of how to do it?

heres a couple pictures of the trim

The speaker itself will mount to the metal work behind. There should be a rubber cover I've the hole. When you fit the speaker don't remove this, just cut a hole big enough into it and then drill holes to mount it. I did husband there was zero vibration even at full volume(test only) as it acts as a damper between the speaker and the body. As for the grilles you will have to remove them and get open grilles from vw. As the ones in the pictures are closed and just clip in. On a 3dr fitting is a bit easier as you don't have to rub te cables through the doors but you do need different grilles.

I'm just not really confident about drilling/screwing as the body panels must only be a few cm away from where ill be screwing?! what size screws did you use?

and presumably ill just have to go to my vw dealer and ask for the right grille yeah?

You may need a bracket to mount onto the body. Was they're no panel between the metal and the trim pieces? Iirc the one I worked on had a silver metal sheet behind the trim and the speakers fit into that.

Yes vw will have the grilles. You could always cut a hole into the plastic trim and mount the speaker to that, but it will look alittle out of place and the sound quality will not be great, but it's up to you
