My mum is over in Chicago at the moment and had picked me up an iPad 3, saving me a few quid on 'rip off Britain'...

I've looked around the web and seen that if she has to declare it at customs it will cost more in import tax - is there a way around this? She's already paid state tax in the price...?

Some suggestions are take it out the box and treat it as one she already uses, and dispose of the box (which isn't of importance to me).

Any experiences would be a help :)

just get her to bin the box and bring it back as if she's owned it for a while. Did this with my macbook pro :) didnt have a single problem

Calaway clubs that cost £££££ in the UK...he just dumped his old clubs and stuck the new ones in his bag.

just one thing to note with "the new ipad" is that 4G will NOT work (ever) in the UK (not sure if 3G would work in the UK with it being for US networks) but if it's the wifi only model, you should be fine.

if it has a fault, you'd probably have to ship it to the US to get any warranty work done on it...

as for the importing of it into the UK, i have no idea.

As for warranty, Apple offer a worldwide warranty :)
