Mk3 G40, Pearl Grey

Featured Replies

I've had a 4 speed, GT and G40 box on my G . The atv was by far the best . Sub 15s are possible mine only had a 65mm pulley and induction kit.

Nice little car, no idea why it never sold before.

Cant help thinking you'd be better off spending the money keeping it tidy than what you've bought so far Matt. Look after it :)

Its slowly getting it to that stage jay, just trying to find a decent body shop in macc. as i dont trust myself with a spraygun , spent a couple of hours detialing the bodywork so i can get a good view of what needs doing, Touched up the paint in a few areas with proper vw paint (thanks saf), on the look out for a new bonnet too, as the current ones had some mega motorway milage and been chipped alot.

New piccies

Next on the list is getting the bay cleaned up and polishing up the usual things.

Good lad, wheels look well :) will be a real nice motor when it's tidied up! You gonna get a 4-2-1 or paint the manifold perhaps?

Lovely, Front fogs would look the part on this! I'm going to be boring and say don't lower it to much and fuck it up underneath.

Its not going any lower mate, apart from 1 setting lower on the rear :D

Thanks for the comments guys

Well eventfull day to say the least

front wheel bearing started to sould like it was going to explode last night.

So i got the bearings this morning, took it to a garage, "£40's sir and it will be ready in 2 hours."

2 hours later the cars still outside, "we need another 2 hours sir"

Agian 2 hours after id left they had actualy got the car on the ramps. "looks like your steering arm to strut threads fucked you'll need a new one" :x more like you just threaded it mate!

So got all that sorted then nipped to a local exhuast centre as id developed a rattle after hitting a speed bump not realising how lower the car is with the ats's.

Turns out the cat had spunked all its inards into the rest of the exhuast on hitting the bump  hour later the good chap removed all the shit and now shes technacaly running a de-cat 8-)

Didnt think today would be to costly, then i realised its a polo

So happy shes sorted now! BIG smiles agian :D

Glad you got it sorted mate!

Any difference in performance with the decat?

Bet it's nippier with smaller wheels?

Checked the lambda out yet?

  • Author

Doesnt feel any quicker, lambda looked in good nick, gave it a clean and haven't noticed anything different, only just got in from doing it all and its pissing it down

Cant tell the difference wheel wise apart from 1st gear being usuable now, drives alot better in the wet too :)

Hey noticed you were after someone to look at your paint, my dad recently got his golf ans mums polo looked at as both had chipped paint the odd large motorway stone shaped chunk out the bonnet.

http://www.chipsaway.co.uk/ they are mobile too and will come to you for free quote and use genuine paints (left us with couple of touch up pots bit that may just be our kind technician) job was £270 for both and all chips you wouldn't know where there

Hope this is helpful Dorey

Car looks good mate.

Makes me wish I kept my polo.lol

Good prog mattface... Which garage u use... steer clear of garages n just giv us a buzz n get it in the unit we'll know more than the garage and at most charge u for some misc. munchies ;)

Tidy! I remember this from back when Jason had it years ago, he bought my 14in RAs off me and collected them from my student house in Cardiff in this.

Keeping wheels in your student house = LAD

I had two sets in the (downstairs) bathroom when he came to collect them. We didn't have a garage, what can you do?

Had to get it to a local garage mate, Had a look at the old bearing - 3 ball bearings inside were grinding there way out of the outer casing thingy , teach me not to leave things to the last minute.

You up the unit sunday? be good to catch up :D

Exhuasts currently 1/2 an inch of the ground so that needs sorting, not the garages fualt because it did turn up a 6pm when they where closing.

Pictures of what I'm doing tonight will be up shortly

Looking through the old history and jason pops up ALOT with some hefty monies spent!

Really wanted some 14"RA's after looking through the old G's pictures, but then i spotted these classics and got a little bit childish, spending money which should go else where on the car

started cracking on with this about 2 hours ago.... not going so well

Dont know if VW made them this way but has anyone ever noticed the dimples on the cover (think golf ball style all over the cover)? takes ages to get them out!

Had to wack the cover back on as i knew i wouldn't get very far without a few beers...

Taken both parts of the throttle body off to give them a clean too, as the G's throttle gone stiff and sticky (giggidy), also repolishing the top part too

Thanks :)

I saw yours going up the strip - tbh that's inspiration for me, it's had a year of mindful driving while I save up for and run in a charger, so it's not until recently that I've been back to driving it properly. Aiming to get it back out on track this year.

Sanding block and rough sandpaper on that cam cover will do the trick.

Before:

After:

I haven't polished mine, just smoothed the texture down a little for that OEM style.

I was also thinking painting the rest of the cover black too  mainly because I'm hand sanding and I've not skin left

Love the range rover badge
