Bit of a crappy situtation at the moment, looking at the repair bill serprised me some what, cheaper than i thought. If i keep her it means no polo show and stuck without a car for a few months, or sell up.

Its a shame, but i didnt expect to have spent so much money on her already and have none spare if something does go wrong, I still need to puchace the rest of the superchager of ad too - as I've only paid him half

Think i need something more sensible than an older polo for a few months until i get a better paid job something like a mk3 vr6, not boring but something that can actualy have rear passangers without killing the car

Went to VW for a price list on parts:

Headgasket: £37

Headbolts: £60

Piston rings : Obsolete

Thats WITHOUT VAT!

Went to the local autofactors and they only want £50 or so including 1 set of rings, Just unsure if there the correct items at the moment,

as some are listed as POLO GT COUPE; Engine code PY??? wtf....

So since the engine died I've not touched her since, gathing road dust... but come the weekend it should see some oily hand prints on the wings

get it sorted- you'd do that job in a weekend with a few mates. get it up on ramps (use trolley jacks to get it up on them if it cant)

your only whipping the head off- then removing the sump to get to the conrod bolts.

check in case you need new rod bolts or nuts before you start( i cant remember if they have to be replaced)

get sump gasket

get sump plug washer

etc etc

make a list before you start

Conrod bolts are replace IIRC, and head bolts, cambelt kit, rings, glaze buster, head gasket kit etx, obtain, prepare and smash it ! :)

mk3 stock headbolts and metal mk4 8v headgasket about £25 from gsf. Hayesey runs this at 190odd bhp!

I've got some piston rings that have done about 20k that came from a melty piston lump... so should have enough for one cylinder, can have em for nowt. however if, as you said in a previous post it looks like metal in bore, i'd be thinking its more than just rings, you'll not know until head comes off

Boom!, thats how you melt a piston right there pictures not great but it looks much worse (you can see the rings)

little scoring at the top of the bores too, not sure if its ok to wack in another piston yet.

Anyone got a piston or bottom end for sale?

So hows it done that? Dodgy injector or summin?
