if you want to keep it 1272, best way is to get a liner down the bore, its a bottom end strip down mind.

easier to swap the bottom end, sell the old bottom end for a 1341 conversion.

yeah had another look and the bore looks pretty bad now, nearest bottom end I've found is in devon, only about a 4 hours drive!

Being stripping the car down slowly today, and trying to remove these dam locking wheel bolts with no luck.

Pictures: Spotted lots of oil in the cooler when taking the head off, so I wipped that off with all the boost pipes give it a good clean inside and out

Considering it was completly black and full of grime i didnt do to well :D

Playing around with the chargers, seeing which ones in better condition. Right hand charger is the one i bought off ad knowing that it leaks oil, cracked it open to see the apex seals have shrunk a fair bit, it is more ported than the other one though, has Jabbasports markings JS #### R stamped on it, meaning R1? spec but its not ported silly amounts like they usualy are.

Left hand charger is the orignal and looks bloody sweet in there, little gunky around the casing inside though, looks to be overlubed  Has JS #### G2 (anyone know what G2 means?) markings so its been serviced at somepoint in its life  mild porting and safs says its stage 2, so i assume G2 means that...derrr

i have a solid working clean g40 engine available for 400quid can arrange to be delivered by pallet for 70quid ??? you could then make your money back from selling the old engine for spares??

where do you live pal? Rather look at something before forking out 400squid tbh, any negotiation on price? as the heads no use to me

cheers :)

id be interested in the head, so that might help you out!

As long as i get the cam cover 8-) guess it all depends on cheddars location....

well Classics are off the car AT LAST! and shes sat on an asortment of steelies, including vauxhall

The money is to fund the new engine, and with payday next week all is going well.

Plans:

Collect engine

Fit engine

Fit old supercharger (less oil usage)

Fit standard V pullys

Try to relocate intercooler so its side on behind mk3 bumper cutouts

Find new set of wheels or GT steels and hub caps for the time being

Clean

This all equates to G smiles agian :D

Ooh nasty!

Have you got to the root of the problem?

Is the fuel pump in good condition and of known age/origin?

I miss G smiles bad! Had a slight tease from a G60 for a couple of weeks, but it just wasn't the same a a G40 polo. Urgent, angry, progressive and satisfying.

I am still trying to explain it to people.

Good luck with the diagnostic and re-assembly!

This is basically what I have on my Polo GT, fully welded from the downpipe join back with a centre section as a rear box and 1 3/4" tube where possible.

Sounds hilarious.. old plod wasn't quite so sure though when I got tugged allegedly doing "in excess of the national speed limit".

Yes officer I'll get that sorted asap. It's pretty much section 59 material if you get heard at the wrong revs!

Your efforts look much less pikey than mine. I just love the MOT testers comments on my car.. "sounds alright, doesn't it?". Now if plod could have heard him utter those words!..

Thats wierd, this sounds moderatly quiet and boring (well used to)

I'm used to loud polos to, mk2 GT with fully stright through side exit while overfueling, was fun for a while

Thing is I've noticed my g40 used to go quieter up the rev range, think it had something to do with such a small back box generating to much back presure or some bullshit :D

Make sure you check/replace fuel system components, don't want this happening again!

You seem to b having very bad luck with this car :-(

At least your getting it sorted out Matt and not selling :)

Only just checked back to this thread, oh dear Matt. What have you done!!

yeh yoofs got a good point, they can check injectors for 30 odd quid, and give a cleaning report and you can get a new bosch pump (from a bmw) for 35 quid, free postage, I'm buying one tomorrow so if you want me to get you one i can

yeah forgot to list finding the cause too

Gunna grab the engine and mount it into the car, so that get me more motivated, then comes finding what went wrong.

Jay: I didnt do nothing! Well i hadnt changed anything to cause a piston melting

Cheers saf, il hold on on the pump as i need to focus on getting the engine first (as it to cheap to refuse). Traveling for its gunna cost a bomb itself :/

Are the pumps the same? or just the same pressure? Either way £35's a steal!

Well an eventful day in the world of the g40.

Rented a Van so i could collect the new g40 engine (£37.50 for 24hours, insurance included so win win, not so win is its a shitron berlingo )

8 hours later is was back in cheshire with the new lump.

Saf had the unfortunate mistake of answering his phone to me, as 99% of the time I'm asking for help or something, this time an engine crane . Mooched over to his and wacked it in the van, legend.

Went to see the missus for 10mins and picked up a mate to help me remove the engine from the van, next thing we where fitting the dam thing. Remember i still have my gearbox in, so we had to so alot of trolley jack lifting on the gearbox and shifting shit around, but shes all lined up and bolted it 8-)

No pictures though, A - Id just driven 8 hours while being tired, B - It was raining, C - it was dark and D - I'm fucked!!!

Tomorrow may see some more work, bolting shit back together if theres no plans with the father. May even be running sometime this week!!!

Yeah it was :D

Can sell off a few thing now, as I'm completly skint and now owe people money , so selling my now spare head and melty piston bottom end (for a 1341 ect) should help.

Poloshows unlikely now though

Time to get cracking!

Weather looking good, taken the van back and picked up my brother gazibo in case it rains.

Hopefully make a good charger out the two i have too (good internals and seals with a oil return that isnt threaded). No doubt its going to be blood sweat and tears all day

yep way to cheap to be missed glade i didn't have to break a perfectly original engine even if i could of got more money.

Nice to meet you and look after my engine

  • Author

Nice to meet you too dude, Il try not to blow this one up

I'm interested in the head, if its a decent price il have it. obviously if its all in good condition.

you heading to the poloshow?

  • Author

head looks spot on pal, not to sure on the polo show like as moneys tight, thats why I'm selling parts of the old engine

After £100 notes, that good for you?
