Ok so now the polo is back on the road and i have my bonrath top mounts fitted from phil j, i have some awful clicking and crunching noises coming from them.

I have assembled them the only way that seems possible...

I know it has been asked before but does anybody yet have a pic of the order they fit together to work properly?

I've got some, exactly the same problem apart from mine bang rather than click.

I fitted them like...

Standard washer

Extra Washer (his actually improved them a bit)

Spring seat

Metal part

Poly part

Half nut

Top cap

Half nut

It's been a few months since I had them off so can't be 100% sure.

If u find the cause let me know plz, I took thw whole lot of to try find any wear marks to help find the cause but no damage atall, all I know is that with mine is that the spring is getting caught on some thing and the noise is it twanging back into place.

Pretty sure they are actually made for mk2 golfs so maybe they just don't fit:((

that link above for the dome bearings from FK are a waste of money.

i found these awhile back and put a topic on the forum - few of us brought these but had problems!

no one knows how to fit them and they dont come with no fitting instructions of any kind.

few people from club polo tried to solve the problem but dont think had any joy - they just dont seem to fit correct!

contacted FK so many times but they ignored us so will never buy from them again!!

if anyone has any news on these please let us know I'm sure alot of us would want to know.

iv still got mine sitting in a box some place...

do the ones from philj not work?? I'm sure he will be able to advise on fitment??

Them fk ones look like they would do the job , no reason why they shouldnt fit :S ?

Where is the bearing in the FK ones? Also, whats that thick donought type piece?

Good to see fitting for the Bonrath ones. I have a set to go on too. Although I'm sure its ony the shallow top cup that actually allows for a lower stance. The poly mount is there for durability/handling

Thay are lock nuts and tighten against each other.

No banging or clicks.

I did get some brake judder when braking gently and the original reused nyloc nut had loosened itself about two-thirds of a turn. And car began to steer slightly left, so I knew something was wrong.

Mine are mint, I fit them how it says on the instructions which were provided

My instructions show:

Standard washer

Spring top seat

Part with bearing

Poly bit

Small tube inside bearing

Nut

Body

Top cap/plate

Nut.

IMO this will allow the mount to twist with wheel lift, whereas both nuts on top will clamp it to body, less movement and won't adjust itself with driving, but nothing retaining the spring top seat :/

Why will the mount twist? The only bit that touches the mount is the bearing, which will obviously turn. The spring seat is retained by the nut on top of the bearing

You're only relying on the weight of the car to hold the poly in place, it could twist.

Unless you ensure the top cap in the bay is clamped tight to the body which would stop the poly rotating but damper can obviously twist due to bearing

The poly is a very tight fit in the turret, but you could put a dowel in if you're concerned. This poly mount is a similar design to the old style OEM top mounts iirc. They had seperate rubber mounts and bearings

Yeah I'm trying to establish the knock people get as it seems to be overcame by clamping it all up to the body

What exactly do you mean by clamping it all up to the body? I may just be retarded in these early hours!

I just got the new nuts needed to fit (i hope) so hopefully getting mine on this week as my standard ones are clearly shot!

DO not fancy having to take the strut out over and over in this lovely weather!

Well there's threads everywhere about noise from them, knocks etc, people who don't have this fit them differently to the instructions

Thats cool, i got the translated instructions so should be fun. It cant be any worse than the knocking and wobbling i have at the moment, i really dont think there is anything left of my current top mounts. The joys of repairing a car you were about to scrap!

Iv not looked, is the bottle with them thread lock or bush lube

I took a look and it looks to be thread lock, id imagine for that top half nut they expect you to use.

I managed to use the forum to find the correct size bolts but may get some more ordered as spare to be sure, still think a full nyloc nut on top is preferable to the half one but we shall see!
