i assembled them the only way that seems possible and they clicked and banged like fuck because they must have been under lots of tension, had the camber setup correctly and the noise has gone, nothing more i can say?!

And they appear fitted as you did?

I'm technically a "professional" and will be setting it up so mine won't knock then? Aha ;)

when i say professional, i mean i took it to a hawk eye laser alignment centre to have the camber properly adjusted, neg one side on pos other must have been putting alot of strain through the suspension!

Yeah I'll be using a similar thing, measures fucking everything, corner weight then wheel alignment

basically you have a scale under each wheel to weigh the load on each wheel..

So were thinking its due to the camber not been set identically on either side? Would this be caused by the fitting of the poly part or by the camber been in correct from the start? Still need to get around to fitting mine but I have shafted steering as it is!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I've fitted mine this evening, I think the poly part is set as symmetrically as possible on both sides. Stopped a lot of banging i had due to shafted old mounts but the small inserts are still wobbling in the strut forgot the 2p wedge trick when fitting and didnt have the grips to get it out tonight. Steering is a little more responsive for the most part, gets a little stiffer at full lock (set the poly part thickest end into the car to straighten the steering up best due to way the lows off centre everything, so far had a quick drive around some bumpy (all bradford) roads, speed bumps, pot holes and tight bends and no noises from them as yet.

Will see how it goes and post back if i get any twanging or issues.

Any news on this?

Will be fitting mine next week and need an answer how to fit them properly,

using the two nuts to lock together is different to the instructions states, does this clamp the top cap tightly to the body or what?

Surely the bearing part should be retained in place on the strut like a standard assembly is?

I originally used just the original nyloc nut - no extra clamping. It worked loose cos it was a reused nut, but I knew to watch for it, and after a week or so of spirited roundabout exit driving the car juddered under light braking and began to steer left.

I then replaced the single nyloc nut with two half locknuts.

Symptoms gone.

When tight - with either fastening method - it has never knocked.

I did use a camber guage and a Trakrite to get the angles right.

I have G-laderseite ARB blocks that have adjusted the castor too.

Three months on I have got some slight brake judder again, which I believe is the caliper slide bolts, not the top mounts.

So how are yours fitted?

The mount on the strut with no top but then two top nuts above the top cap?

Yeah I read that.

So you having nothing retaining the top mount until its on the car? Is the top cap tight against the body as there's no nut below it spacing it?

I'm going to fit mine

Top mount

Half nylock nut

Body

Top cap

Flanged nylock nut.

This way it's assembled as standard and shouldn't work lose, the top mount is retained to the spring/damper assembly as it should be, and the top cap won't be clamping the body not being able to turn - makes the most sense to me!

Let us know how tht goes!

Where'd you find a half nyloc nut in metric fine?

Local nut and bolt supplier

Besides it doesn't really matter all it does is sit the top cap higher up which shouldn't touch the body anyway

unse 6n top caps if its a issue, they are more slimline ;)

Hey guess what, my 6n top caps are bent lol :( the bonarth mounts come with top caps

oh haha, well I've got 6n ones on mine i think, had to enlarge the top hole to fit he golf coilovers. Think they are mk4 ones anyway haha.

Mine knock yay!!!

It's the bearings that are shit I think

Just took mine apart again.

After further investigation I noticed the bearings are a pretty shit fit in the top caps and can move with little force, I pushed them out by hand, would have thought they'd at least need a little tap or pressing out.

After some measuring and fettling they're a tighter fit and don't knock anywhere near as bad.
