Insurance OEM Parts

Featured Replies

When you get your insurance do you put OEM parts on it?

I've put Coilovers steering wheel, debadged grill and an induction kit on the policy.

I have a 6n 1.4cl and I didn't put on the list 16v bumpers, 6n2 clear indictors and side repeaters, 6n2 rear lights, 6n2 gti door cards and 6n2 SE wheels.

When I got the policy I didn't think anything of it cos they're polo parts, but now I'm not so sure.

Does anyone ever but stereo and speakers on their policy, I don't think I ever have.

I think yes, you should declare them. In an ideal world you should declare anything non standard on your car.

They are a mod regardless

it wood be ok if thay where 6n bits but coss there 6n2 bits its a mod (you cant say it came out the factory like that)

I was just gonna add that ^

I said about 6n2 wheels on a 6n.

Answer was, they Wern't avail on that car in production, they may be fine and the same platform but they Wern't tested and such, therefore are basically an after market wheel

I think it's just my ignorance then :D I'll get it sorted this week

I do wonder about some things, like I have a roof rack on at the mo but I'd never put that on my policy, if I had a crash would they say "you never told us about the roof rack", or say I was doing a job on the car and had to take the seats out but then needed something from the shop, if I just put the drivers seat back in and drove to the shop and had a crash would they say my car should have been insured as stripped?

All grey areas ain't it.

Like "I had an accident whilst towing"

...you never told us you had a towbar..

Whilst on the subject of insurance, are things like banded wheels and chassis notches an insurance nightmare?

They gave me a hard enough time when I told them I had the coilovers wound as far down, so I can just imagine response I would get if I got those done.

Banded steels are illegal.

Chassis notch should have an IVA as its a modification to the shell

Or an engineers report maybe

But how far do you have to go on declaring things to the insurance?

I've just brought a K&N panel filter for my Astra, I'm buying it for the longlivitey more than as a mod, will I have to declare this?

Yes.

In theory you should declare a different brand tyre to what the vehicle came with.

It's different to standard, it's a mod.

There's a difference between telling them and being charged etc.

You SHOULD tell them everything, even a sticker in the window.

May have a longer life, but also flows better so is performance inclined; even if you don't see it that way.

You declare EVERY change from when the vehicle left the factory, you then let your insurers do the rest.

I'm also a bit hazy about declaration and what not, not the best time as I'm going through a claim and haven't declared a few bits but hoping it'll be fine as they are very minor and I wasn't at fault so my insurers aren't paying out, but the dealership wrapped my roof, de badged my car and powder coated the wheels black before I bought it (I did not request this) should these things be declared? I mean as far as I'm aware thats how it was given to me new so surely it's standard?

Still a variance to your model, unless it's on your options sticker

Spoke to the dealership and he said it shouldn't be an issue and as far as I was aware that's how it rolled off the assembly line. He said I shouldn't worry about the GTI grill either. Either way provide this claim goes through fine I'm still gonna declare everything on the insurance to be safe. The constant worry is definitely not worth it

He's giving you duff advice I'm afraid.

Sanity check here - what's to lose?

So you call them and they need to be declared. At least you're covered even if it costs more.

Or you call them and they say they don't mind, add it to your list of mods, and again you're getting your advice from the insurance company. Not one of your mates.

Banded steels are not illegal Harris

They are lol.

Unless you have them tested and approved
