Hi all

I am thinking of changing From the norm4x100 to 5x100 as I have some very nice wheels to fit my 6n

I have read in other threads that it's possible to change the rear drums to 5atud discs off a ml4 golf?

Will this work with the drums? As I'm not too bothered about having rear discs?

If the rears can be swapped over does this mean the front will also be swappable?

I do not want to use adapters as they will make the wheels stick out too much as they're already over the arch and most adapters I've found are at least 20mm thick.

Sorry for sounding like a noob, but I'm clueless in this area. Sorry If this has been covered before as it didn't come up when I searched

fronts wont be swappable i dont think- will require the 4 holes welded up and then machined and redrilled 5x100, then you hit another problem, brake discs. if you have the smaller brake setup i dont think you can get 239 or 256 in 5 stud- so will also require redrilling unless you have the bigger hubs and 280/288 brakes which you can get in 5 stud.

I heard a rumour many years ago that it was possible to fit a corrado vr6 hub into a mk2 golf knuckle if it was machined slightly- may be possible to do this with a polo gti hub- but i dont know- so dont quote me.

and i think it was the rarer mk3 5 stud drum not the mk4. mk4 fits differently and has the bearing seperate from the drum unlike the older drum brakes

So the mms golf 5atud rear drums will fit ? Are they the same size, from what I've read they are but has anyone tried them?

Am I wrong in thinking that the mk3 golf front hubs are similar to the golf? Or am I missing something silly?

mk4 golf has discs - all models, all are 5 x 100

can't think of a 5 stud vw (car) drum off hand

are the skoda fabia hubs / drums an option? i know they are 5 stud and similar to the polo but not sure, just throwing it out there...

I ont mind changing to disc at the back, i just thought that if there was an option to use a drum it would be easier.

Citrus- thanks for that, I had forgot about skoda, I will have a look into that. Anyone on here know if the hubs / brakes from skoda / seat etc will fit on the 6n?

as he's already said adaptors act like spacers so they will cause his wheels to stick out too much.

i hope you find a solution although it seems a lot effort to fit a set of wheels

Erm, polo 9n went to 5x100 all round. Rear drums are on lower models ie 1.2/1.4. then I think the 1.4 sport has rear discs. see if you can get a golf hub but with a polo wheel bearing? Or will a 6n hub fit a 9n polo wheel bearing. (Holds the threaded holes for the wheel bolts) then some 9n discs using 6n callipers, With the drums just do a 5 stud conversion to disks.

Also, be careful of your brake balance as well. Modern cars have discs all round but like the 6n's they have discs and drums to make it a efficient cheap brake system so adding drums to a car with big front discs will out way it and make it pointless to have drums. Can cause problems under braking the car becoming unstable.
