Featured Replies

Need a complete loom, so I am able to plug it straight in with no cutting/soldering.

Early or late?

Early or late?

Late I think!

The engine is from an R reg, and I've taken out all the earlier wiring in my car, so I'm hoping I'll be able to just plug a newer loom straight into my fuse box?

Your best off finding a loom to suit the rest of the car mate, that way its just a case of swapping over the engine bay wiring and immobiliser setup which will all just plug straight into you cars wiring. The fuses boxes are different so you would also need to swap them over, maybe even things like your clocks may not work with the wrong sort of loom so may need swapping too , but not 100% on that

It would be so much easier to just find a loom from the correct era 16v polo than to mess about swapping the whole loom over

So you mean get an earlier 16v bay loom which fits my earlier interior loom? Will that be ok with the later engine though?

My car is P reg '96 and the engine is from an S reg '98 (not R, sorry)

Thanks for your help by the way McLovin, I swear you've ended up helping me out with a fair few things on here before! Appreciate it mate

Yep early loom will work with a late engine just fine although you will need the full engine loom as this comes in two pieces. There's the main engine bay loom that feeds every thing in the bay, and there's also a small loom which plugs into every thing on the engine and then plugs into the main engine loom. The plug that joins this small loom to the engine bay loom is different with late/early so you will need that little loom too.

I'm not 100% on this but it may be a case of if you get that small engine loom it may plug into your original engine bay loom. They may use a standardized main engine bay loom and then just have different engine looms to suit the different engines... But this is just a theory in my head so should probably just be ignored

You can use the late ecu and immobiliser setup on a early wiring loom as well (if that's what you have?) as that's what I'm running in my mk2, although it does need a little wiring to make the immob work properly but I have pictures of it and can tell you which wires go where if you need to know

No worries mate

Thankyou so much! Great help, I shall try get hold of an earlier loom then.

and yeah I'm pretty sure the immob/ecu/transponder ring I bought was from a later polo (but i'll check to be certain) so if you wouldn't mind, pics would be a massive help!

I'll let you know how it goes!!

If you can pm me a photo of the immob i'll be able to tell you which one it is mate, of its a late one i'll sort the pics and what not of how to wire it in
