Hi guys. I had an accident the other day involving me and one other car. Luckily no one was badly hurt. I was wondering, as i'm repairing my car ( as damage was mainly cosmetic); should i take it/will anyone let me take it to have an MOT, just to see if it is roadworthy and safe?

Id imagine that any garage will have a look over it for you and tell you if its still roadworthy, i doubt that they can put a fresh mot on it though (i think you have to be within a month ish before its due to run out)

of course they can put a fresh mot on it. you just loose any months over 13.

Doesn't the 13 month thing only could if you take it in the last month of its current mot? So if you take it before that date you only get a fresh 12 month ticket instead of the 13 months?

Although depending on the damage an mot may not really be the best route to take as it will be testing a lot of stuff not effected by the accident and may not really focus a lot on the area that is effected. A better bet would be to take it in and ask them to check the area that has been repaired to make sure it was done to a safe standard, but some unscrupulous places may try and con you to get some work out of you so try and take it to a trusted garage if you can
